Is there a 'problem' or a myth about non-latex condoms?

My friend has been telling me that she cannot use latex condoms, because of allergies, and refuses to use non-latex because they 'do something' and wont tell me what this something is. Is there anything wrong with them?

I know people are allergic to latex, thats not my question.

Non-latex condoms have been shown to have higher breakage and slippage rates than latex ones. The first avanti brand one (called superthin) was withdrwn from sales in the early 90's for this reason However given the choice between no condom and one with a slightly higher risk of breaking i think your frind is making the wrong choice.

No they wont do anything different. I have been using sherlon (sure i spelled it wrong_Latex, they are thinner, stronger and no allergic reactions for latex.

some girls are alergic to latex... its true

Yeah, goes like this between two girls:
Hey Marry, I don't want Shane to F me... what can I do?
Cathi, tell him you are alergic to latex and uh... if he says 'what about non-latex' , - but most guys don't know about those so he won't know to ask... - just come up with something quick...

sorry dude... had to do it... ;) Nothing personal!

I am not aware of any major issue with non-latex... they seem to have a good rep...
but: from http://sexuality.about.com/od/contracept...
There have been several studies comparing non latex and latex condoms. In 2003 a review of 10 of these studies was published, Non-latex versus latex male condoms for contraception. The reviewers concluded that while non latex condoms are not equal in effectiveness as latex condoms, they are a suitable substitute for individuals with latex allergies.

Mostly myth. Non latex are a little less effective but not by much. Do not use the super thin and it is better.

Using nothing sure is a high risk.
