Does laser Eye surgery HURT?!?

Does laser eye surgery hurt? I've never had any problems with my eyes at all, but family members of mine have, and I've always wondered about Laser Eye Surgery, after poeple get it, they don't seem to be in much pain, so i don't know!

I had PRK a week ago...and there was no pain at all during the procedure. My surgeon used numbing drops that took effect practically immediately.

Now, I did have some discomfort days 3 and 4 postoperatively, but that was mostly due to the bandage contact lens irritating my eyelids. Yes, there was some burning sensation, kinda like after you've opened your eyes in a chlorinated pool, but nothing super excruciating. My surgeon provided me with some numbing drops and a prescription for painkillers. I started taking Motrin about 24 hours after surgery on a schedule...then used the RX starting about 36 hours after to try to stay ahead of the discomfort, but what I found helped most was the Motrin and a cold pack. After that, it really was only the contacts causing my discomfort...which totally went away as soon as my surgeon took them out on postop day 4...and I've been pain and discomfort free ever since...very mild dry eye sensation. And I'm the biggest baby when it comes to pain!

Now, for LASIK, my husband had slight burning for a couple of hours after we got him home...but that was also during the time that the docs tell you to take a nap...and he didn't even need Tylenol or Motrin and only had a dry contact feeling.

So, no, there is absolutely no pain during the procedure at all and some mild burning or stinging for a few hours right after the procedure for LASIK, and my burning/stinging for PRK went on for a couple of days starting about 36 hours postop, but it really was manageable and mine was controllable with mainly Motrin, with a little RX painkiller for 2 days...and that was it...nothing like the pain you feel when you sprain an ankle at all.

i wonder the same thing

No it does not hurt. It is a quick procedure and does not involve any pain whatsoever.

you may feel as if you have a foreign object in your eye. But this sensation should go away after the first day with the help of eye drops given to you by your doctor. You may also experience sensitivity to light the first day or so following LTK laser eye surgery, but pain or other discomfort is rarely associated with this procedure.

Your eyes are numb for the actual surgery, so it doesn't hurt at all. It's at most uncomfortable in the days after, like a feeling of dust in your eyes. Depending on if you get Lasik or PRK the recovery time is 3-4 days (Lasik) or 5-7 days (PRK).

I was very near sited before and now I have 20/15 after PRK.

there is no pain during the eye surgery, but there are still risks of complications in the future......

Two of my aunts have had it done.

It doesn't hurt at all; my mom performs it regularly as an opthamlogist and none of the patients feel pain because numbing drops are put in the eyes before the surgery.

It doesn't hurt. It's a little uncomfortable when they put the device on that holds your eyelid open. It's really only weird because you are so used to blinking and when they put the drops in your eyes to keep them from getting dry you really want to blink. The actual laser process only lasted about 30 seconds. They doctor talks you through the whole thing. As soon as the doctor sets the chair up you can see better!! It's so amazing!! I had mine done last July and I am the biggest baby!! I would do it again in a heartbeat!!

Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

No. I had lasiks last year. They put numbing drops in the eye about 5 minutes before surgery. The surgical tech eye drew a dot on each of my eyes and I didnt even feel that.
After surgery everything was cloudy and grayish looking (they told me would happen) and my eyes felt a little sore. Like someone had sprayed pepper in my eyes. Not enough to make me cry but just enough that my eyes felt sore and I wanted to keep them closed, which I did for the rest of the day.
And how I see 20/15 (BETTER than 20/20 vision)!

yes it hurts but only for a while because they cut your eyelids but after that you have to wear these speical glasses that they give you when ever you go out side or are in where the sun is at....hope this help...
