Laser eye surgery anyone had this treatment and what was the results?

im shortsighted and normally use daily disposable contact lenses but laser eye surgery seems so cheap now that in the long run it wud prob be cheaper for me to have surgery. anyone had it done, what were the results, best co to use and most of all did it hurt, during and after hahaha

i had lasik treatment last year.
the treatment itself was painless but the following 8 hours i felt as though i had a beach in my eyes. (i didn't want to have to rely on the numbing drops too much.)
the next day i felt so much better and now i've got almost perfect vision (from -5.5).
i went to optimax in manchester. i would recommend you go to one of the specialist surgeries

I had it done and I can now draw a perfectly straight line using my head.

Hi i have 2 aunts who have had this done and they said there is no pain but a little scratchy feel while you have it done. they say it is the best thing they have ever done and both have good eyesight now. You do have to go back a couple of times after the first lot of treatment but i knw both my aunts would recommend this to anyone. Go get it done and good luck

not pretty i had to waer sun glases the next 15 hours!!

My sister had it done but was disappointed with the results. I think you should go to a reputable company and discuss thoroughly what your condition is and what result you could get.

Hi. I had it done 5 yrs ago. Best thing I ever did. Didn`t hurt a bit, took 10 mins and I could see well immediately. I was quite shortsighted and got 100 % vision.
I had mine done in Spain where I live so can`t recommend a company, but go for it!

I was extremely nearsighted until a week ago when I had PRK. and while I do not have the perfect vision yet, I am only one week postop and still healing with some fluctuating vision which my surgeon says should even out in 1-6 months depending on my rate of healing. I'm still VERY VERY happy!!

The surgery itself didn't hurt a bit...they use numbing drops. And I really didn't have any severe pain postop...was controlled with Motrin and only 2 days of painkiller...keep in mind, I had PRK...it's a little different approach than LASIK and has a longer healing time...my husband had the LASIK and was pain free later that same day.

I'm am 8 days post op and seeing more clearly than I have in my life (uncorrected I was worse than 20/400). I'm not real sure what I measure right now, but on Monday when I was on postop day 4, my vision was 20/60...and that was with dry eyes. I have steadily improved since then.

My husband was 20/200 and 20/300 prior to his LASIK...and on postop day one...he was 20/30 and 20/40...one week postop 20/15 and 20/20. He has his one month postop next week...and he says he's seeing even BETTER now.

The biggest thing to keep in mind is that it is the surgeon and his/her knowledge of the procedures and their educations. I interviewed one surgeon over the phone (I'd done my own research and had a set of questions I wanted to ask before I spent the 2 hours for the complete eye exam) and really researched them on the internet. I had three names recommended by my optometrist and a corneal specialist I work for. I researched all three surgeons and chose the one I felt best qualified (a corneal specialist by education...that's all he has done and he still teaches at a medical school).

There are risks, of course...as there are with ANY procedure, but these days, there are so many ways to help head off those risks with a good, knowledgeable surgeon. Check out the AllAboutVision site below...it's got a lot of good information.

I'm also adding on a site that I used to research the procedures in a little more detail myself...If you're queasy, do not scroll all the way to the bottom...there are some pictures, as this last website is actually written for physicians by physicians.

The places that advertise the really cheap prices per eye...I honestly would stay away from...most likely those centers are just using that price to get you in the door and very very few patients will even qualify for that price...those places have been reported (allaboutvision.com) to have "sliding scale" type pricing...meaning that the worse your correction, the more it will cost to correct. My surgeon has 4 technologies available to him...each technology is a set price...no matter what the amount of correction. They did range from $700/eye all the way up to $2100/eye. And do keep in mind that prices are going to vary from region to region across the country.

And the places overseas that you see people talking about...honestly, I do not understand how anyone going from the US to Canada or India for the surgery, then the necessary postop visits to make sure all is well. Sounds a lot more expensive to me to buy the plane tickets on top of the surgery itself...hmmmmmmm...do the math.

Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Indian Health Guru Consultants. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Indian Health Guru Consultants is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

You dont want "cheap" surgery. I had custom bladeless lasiks (bladeless is best and newest out there now). It was almost $6,000 but that paid for follow up appointments and I can have surgery redone for free if my vision ever changes as I get older.
You want QUALITY not a cheap deal. If someone offers a low low price, dont trust that they are the best at their job. Trust the ones that charge 4,000 to 6,000. Anything lower is asking to get some crappy surgeon who may not really be up to date or know what they are doing.
I recommend TLC centers. They are all over the US. If you have health insurance that can maybe get you a discount on the procedure.

I was 20/400 and now i see 20/15 (which is BETTER than 20/20 aka perfect vision) and I was 26 when i had it done last year

i was blind as a bat very short sited wore glasses for years had the surgery done and its the best thing ever no real discomfort i have 20/20 vision ,it was like going to the dentist no big deal get it done asap you will be amazed

I have just had surgery on june 21st and it was painless, just a little discomfort for a few hours afterwards which was rectified very quickly with the drops provided.I was +5.5 and +5.75 with a lot of astigmatism.I could see better than i ever did straight away after the operation and the next morning i had my post op. examination and the surgeon was delighted with my outcome.I was 20/25 at this stage, my long-distance vision was slightly blurry today, sat 23rd but i have being told to expect this untill every thing settles down.My close up vision is very very good and i never had vision like it in my life-time.I just hope it continues to improve every day and i cant wait to do all the things that i always wanted to do without the help of glasses. So my advice to you is, to go ahead and get it done, but make sure you pick a highly experienced surgeon who will provide the proper aftercare, and dont let price be the deciding factor.A procedure like this is priceless.I paid 4400 euro. and it was worth every cent of it, because the clinic and surgeon are both highly recommended and i have a life-time warranty with the procedure,"meaning that if i need further enhancement treatment to my eyes" it will not cost me anything.

i had it done via optimax , results great but this time of year dont do it as your eyes are so sensitie to the sun and you feel you have to wear sunlasses all the time, it is great though but the time of yearI I feel is also is a factor! good luck , no pain ,, no gain

What is eye laser surgery?

Traditionally, eye sight problems are corrected with spectacles or contact lenses.

In recent years, lasers have become a popular alternative. The laser is directed on the cornea, the outer, clear round structure that covers the colored part of the eye (iris) and the pupil.

For people with short-sightedness, for instance, the laser is set to reduce the thickness of the cornea. This enables the eye to bring images into focus properly.

The cost of eye laser surgery varies between clinics but generally starts at around 拢500 per eye.

Are there different types?

Yes. There are three main types of eye laser surgery.

The newest and most popular type of eye laser surgery is called LASIK. Under this procedure, a thin layer of the eye's cornea is sliced off to create a flap. This enables the laser to target the tissue underneath. The flap is simply replaced and grows back naturally. Vision is restored almost immediately.

Another option is EPIFLAP or LASEK surgery. This involves the partial removal of the epithelium or outer layer of cells on the eye to reveal the cornea. The cornea is then flattened or reshaped by a laser and the outer cells are pushed back and the eye heals within a few days.

PRK was the standard eye laser surgery for many years. It involved the complete removal of the epithelium or the outer layer of cells on the eye.

LASIK is usually used on patients with severe long sight or short sight. LASEK is used on patients with moderate or mild short sight.

Are these treatments safe?

All of these treatments have been approved for use in the UK and are therefore considered safe.

However, medical opinion is somewhat divided over some of the newer treatments.

This is largely because they have not been around very long and there are no long-running studies into the long-term effects of some of the treatments.

In addition, all surgery is not without its risks and eye surgery is no different. Doctors are expected to warn patients that the treatment does involve risk.

In some cases, patients have suffered major complications and required cornea transplants following laser treatment.

Can everyone have laser eye surgery?

No. Eye laser surgery is only suitable for certain people. It is usually only performed on healthy adults.

People who have just mild eyesight problems are not generally considered good candidates. Similarly, those whose eyesight has changed significantly in the past 12 months may also be refused because their eyesight is still getting worse.

Diabetes, pregnancy and arthritis and other similar conditions can also rule people out.

How popular is eye laser surgery?

Eye laser surgery is getting more popular every year not least because prices are coming down and the treatment is more widely available.

It is estimated that more than one million Americans are now having their eyes lasered in the US each year.
