Laser eye surgery, a few questions...?

can anyone tell me what happens?

im interested in getting laser eye surgery, (in essex are). can anyone recommend a good cheapish service?

i am very short sighted in 1 eye, and have a stygmatism in other. Have been told in the past that a stygmatism cannot be repaired? is this true?

thanks in advance for your answers.

I would not go witht he cheapest person you can find. I would go with the best. Good Lazer Surgeons are not cheap. The best you can pay for is the best for your eyes. Go to your optometrist and ask for a referral to someone good. It is not true that astigmatism can not be fixed. It can be.

========================================...
laser surgery has been around for about 12-15 years.
so, no one knows if there are side effects after 25-30 years, or even after that.
======================================...
98% of the time it goes well. the other 3% suffer from things like these :
cannot drive at night,
even a torch light seems blinding,
seeing a(or a couple) blurred dot(s) for the rest of their lives,
etc.

remember that 1st thing i wrote. its asks for some thought.

I was near-sighted and had astygmatism also. I had Lasik eye surgery @ 7 years ago and came through it beautifully. I don't have 20/20 vision, but it's good enough that I don't have to wear glasses.

Know first of all that you have to set a realistic goal. Eye surgery is not going to give you "perfect vision", just better vision. Research the available doctors. DON"T go to one just because he/she is cheap. That's a huge mistake! These are your eyes your talking about - you need the best! My surgery cost @ $3000.00 dollars per eye.

The surgery itself it fairly simple. They will deaden your eyes with drops. They do not put you to sleep. You lay down on the surgery table and they secure your eyes with a device that keeps you from blinking. Sounds horrible, but doesn't hurt at all. The first part of the procedure, the doctor cuts the outer covering of the eye, (cornea I think, sorry not up on my eye parts) and peels this back so that he can repair the lens of the eye. The laser shines right in your eye and makes a thumping noise - but your only job is to lay as still as possible. None of it hurts. When he is done reshaping your eye with the laser, he closes the flap of cornea back in place and it self seals - no stiches. The whole procedure only takes about 30 minutes for each eye.

That's basically it. You have to sleep in "goggles" for about a week to make sure you don't accidentally rub your eyes while they heal. The only discomfort is a heavy burning feeling - almost like at the end of a really bad day when your eyes are tired and start to burn. Uncomfortable, but not painful. And it only last about 2 -3 days.

Personally, I think having that surgery was one of the best things I've ever done. But I went to a seminar that the doctor's office hosted before hand to get information and actually talk to the doctor and nurses. So I knew what to expect and felt comfortable with the people doing the surgery.

see a consultant who specialise in laser surgery. My options is OPTICAL EXPRESS and they do surgery at Bluewater, it depends on your perscription as what surgery is best and of course the cost. The actual process is cutting a few layers of the cornea to make a flap, then to laser the eyes, the flap is put down and job done, it is painless and the worst bit is after 20min your eyes water like as if you've cut onions. But this wares off after a few hours. Optical Express after care is fab, my vision is better than it's ever been, and i'm looking forward to the summer of wearing trendy sunglasses. Good luck if you go for it, but i promise it doesn't hurt one bit.
