Laser/Lasik eye surgery Good or Bad?

My eyes are dry from constant contact lens wearing and glasses are impractical, do you recommend laser eye surgery, and is it safe? Have you had it done yourself?
Was it worth the money?

I had Lasik eye surgery with very good results. When you go in for the initial consultation they will test your eyes to determine if you are a surgery candidate.

The procedure itself is very safe, particular since the initial cut of the corneal flap can now be performed by a laser as well, rather than the surgical blade historically used. Using a laser to make the corneal flap cut is very accurate and reduces any chance of infection or complications.

I paid a total of $2900 or so two years ago. I consider it money well spent. My vision is now 20/15, better than I ever had with glasses.

The "halo effect" that n8tiveuit refers to is a temporary effect caused by the corneal flap being cut. The corneal flap will heal, and this effect goes away.

Regarding pmt's comments: there are a wide variety of lasers used in modern society. To compare a high-power laser to a medically-designed precision laser is rather uneducated.

good! my mother in law did it and it was great and worth it...i believe she only had to be with her eyes closed for as couple of weeks...

I use Similason Dry Eye Relief. Checked into lazer/lasik surgery and not confident with results. Friend has one good eye; one bad eye from surgery. That comedian that had Extreme Makeup? She's losing sight. Don't know which she had, but she is one on TV who stated she was losing sight. I don't think it's worth the money. Maybe in the future.

my former boss had it done. she said when she looked at light on the ceiling it has a halo look to it.
my current boss said it works wonders.
i guess it depends on where and who does it for you.

No I dont if anything I reccomend contacts or glasses if that on laser pen's and on your laser mouse if you have one anything that is a laser is dangerous to your eye they even tell you aviod contact with the eye and it can cause blindness aswell. So now doctors come up with a LASER to FIX you EYE ok its very risky!!!

I had the same situation. I spent a aong time deliberating, originally feeling that any compromise in my vision due to ill effects of surgery would be unacceptable.

Glasses were impractical for my line of work, and I tended to leave my contacts in way to long. I chose to have Lasik. I had the procedure done on a Friday, and worked a full day on Monday. My job is immensly dependent on my vision and I am extremely happy with the results. Contacts and glasses were really imparing me more than I thought.

I would say take the first step and see if you are a candidate for the surgery. See someone with vast experience.
