Laser Eye Surgery ? |
I am mega short sighted and wear contact lenses, but I'm considering splashing out on laser eye surgery...does anyone have any reccomendations ? im 30 years old My husband had his laser eye surgery done with Ultralase.. He did a load of research on the Doctor who performed the surgery via the internet and testimonials, and had it done after about 3 months of looking into it. I went with him to Leeds. He had it done in the early evening so that it wouldnt be too long before bedtime as he could tell something had been done but thought it would be less irritating if he was asleep.(they give you drops and eye shields to wear at night) He paid a grand for each eye about 6 years ago and said it was the best thing ever. its risky You might want to wait until you are 16 1/2 years old. Otherwise you still might have to wear contacts. Its not risky anymore. I used to work for an optical company and they are routeen operations now. Like any operation, there are some risks, but they are minimal. I know two blokes that have undergone the treatment. Both swear it is one of the best things they have done in their lives. Well apparently 92-98% of patients are happy with the results. It was only developed in 1990 and I personally believe that it hasn't been going long enough for them to determine any long term risks the surgery may have, or long term results. Its your money though. both of my inlaws had it and they say that's it the best thing that they've ever done. It isn't risky and the doctor goes over the entire procedure with you. plus , when you leave your eyes are good as new no waiting for the surgery to kick in both my parents are optometrists. it's a good idea. go for it. I know a few people that have had it and swear its the best thing they have ever done,it is however uncomfortable for a few days as they have to cut a flap over the eyeball. I wear glasses and would never have it done. look for an m.d. that has performed many surgeries of this type. also, a really good m.d. will not pressure you to go ahead with the surgery if you are unsure. it is very safe if you locate a good m.d. If you get this procedure done, keep in mind that the results often don't last and you will have to go back in for touchups. I've also heard that you can't wear contact lenses ever again. When you get into your 40s, you will need reading glasses even if you were nearsighted before getting it done. That's why I haven't had it. I would only swap one problem for another and still would have to wear glasses no matter what. |
