Preparing for laser eye surgery-? |
I have laser eye surgery tomorrow, October 27 and I was just wondering what to expect after my surgery ( I know I am to be experiencing burning and I cannot touch my eye) However, I was just wondering what to do as far as making the healing process go smoothly. Any advice would be awesome, thanks! Follow the directions from your doctor after the surgery. The best thing to do after the procedure is to go home and sleep for a few hours (the eyes do a lot of healing in that time period). After that, your eyes will likely feel a bit gritty, sort of like they have some sand in them. Plan on spending the weekend just relaxing and sitting around. When I had my Lasik procedure done about 2 1/2 years ago, I didn't really have any pain associated with the surgery, just a bit of discomfort. Be sure to use all of the drops they tell you to use, and you can always be liberal with the saline/re-wetting drops...they will make a huge difference. Also, just be aware of your eyes so you don't touch or bump them for at least the first few weeks. You should notice an improvement in your vision fairly quickly (same day), but if it isn't perfect, don't worry about it. Your eyes will take some time to even out and adjust after the surgery, so give it at least a few weeks to see how much your vision improved. My mother had it done last week. I went with her, it took about 5mins, after waiting for the drops given to her before hand to work, about 20mins. She went in nervous, came out fine, had to get an eyedrop prescription from hospital pharmacy, went and had something to eat and she has not mentioned it since. I had it done. Best decision I ever made. My eyes were a little fuzzy after because of dialation but by the next day I could see perfect. Just follow your doctors instructions and keep putting the eyedrops or wetting solution in as long as reccommended. Very easy recovery. Don't worry and congratulations on your new vision. After you go home after surgery, sleep, sleep, and sleep. I had mine done at night so I went home and straight to bed so I never felt like I just had surgery other than I knew I could rub my eyes. Simply follow your drops regimin and stay away from rubbing your eyes and you should be fine! Good luck to you and congrats. The most common problem during the early stages of healing is eye lubrication. Lasik can disrupt the normal tearing function. Using preservative-free artificial tears - they come in single-use vials - is very helpful. If you use a computer or watch a lot of TV, be sure to schedule yourself a break now and then. We tend to not blink enough with these activities. |
