I am shortsighted and wish to have laser eye surgery, but I have dry eyes.?

I am shortsighted, I often wish to not wear eyeglass, it's doesn't look nice on me, I look much better without eyeglass. Also, with an oily face it's very inconvenient and uncomfy to wear eyeglass, especially during hot summer. And imagine it's looks very funny to wear eyeglass when I dance.

I have very dry eyes and cannot wear contact lense. So I very wish to do laser eye surgery to cure my shortsightedness.

But I wish to know if I can do laser eye surgery, since I have dry eyes. BUT LASER EYE SURGERY IS MY LAST HOPE.

This is a serious questions, please be helpful, thank you.

*I went to an eye specialist, and he did not do anything to help me, just put paper strips in my eyes and test, then tell me that I don't have enough tears. And I ask him if I can do sth about it, he did not answer. (I feel so hopeless) Probably because I am not his private patient, but the ones that wait in the long wait list.

Thanks for the 'Restasis', and knowing that my tear film can be replenished again. Because before I used to be able to wear contact lense, I don't what when my eyes become so dry that I cannot wear anymore.

I lived in BC, Canada, I don't know if they have that Restasis available, but what you said did give me some hope.

I really hate wearing eye glass, I do look much more better without eye glass. And it's just very very funny to wear eye glass when I dance.

p.s. That happens on the dermatologist too. My rich aunt see him as private patient and he treated her. But me, he finish his appointment with me in less then five minutes.

Pretty sure dry eyes has nothing to do with the laser surgery. They just use a laser to reshape your cornea so your vision is not out of focus. They do this with many very, very quick laser pulses. They usually slightly sedate you and keep your eye propped open. Having dry eyes should not be a problem.

Laser surgery will damage nerves that controls your tear ducts. Therefore if you have dry eyes, the chances of getting infection and even drier eyes are very high. Please weigh all your options because I've read many many testimonies about the devastating effect of laser surgery. Report It

Laser surgery DOES make eyes become more dry than they were before it (it might take a month or something until they return to normal) And if you have ALREADY dry eyes means you'll make them even worser. Buy some eye drops and use them for a while and then do the surgery. (just to have a back-up..) Report It

Go and get the free testing to see if you qualify first. I did it about 6 years ago and my eyes still feel like they are full of rocks. I also have Crohn's disease but no one told me that the eye surgery will be aggravated by any inflammatory disease. I see really well, but if it is really sunny or a lot of flourescent lights I have to wear sunglasses or there is severe pain. If I do look at a light when I blink I can see where my lens was lasered. Now they have a series of tests to see if you qualify. I recommend that first. I was probably the one in a thousand that has a bad experience, but it can happen.

Ask an Ophthalmologist, not these yahoos on Yahoo! I had the laser surgery 4 years ago and am very happy with the results. I didn't take any medical advice from these late night hackers.

i have a couple of friends that have had laser surgery. they are very happy about it. as for the dry eyes talk to you eye doctor, there must be some kind of eye drop product that you can use.

If you have a severe enough case of dry eyes, no doctor will perform laser corrective surgery anyway. There is a test they can do for dry eyes, called Schirmer's. There are tear therapies like Restasis that can be used over a long period of time to help with dry eyes, then once your tear film is replenished, you may qualify for laser corrective surgery. Ask an eye surgeon for specifics.
