Why isn't Laser Eye Surgery on the NHS??

Why is it that you cannot get laser eye surgery in the nhs but in some case you can have a boob job! Personally i find wearing glasses could be much more distressing than having a smaller chest. Yet doctors will give out a boob job but if you want your eyes lasered, it cost a bomb.!! In the long run it works out cheaper if people where given the surgery instead of paying for new glasses and contact lenses as well each month for the rest of your life?? Am i missing a good reason on why it doesnt add up?

Because you can get adequate treatment for eye problems by using glasses or lenses. Laser treatment is more a vanity issue.
Yes, boob reductions (NOT implants!) are available on the HNS, but that is only done for sound medical and emotional reasons...not vanity....;

Because the NHS are cheap!
No, seriously, because it isn't necessary. They would argue that you can get by with glasses or contact lenses!
They're sad, but thats the way it is!
Sorry!

I agree. I didn't know people got their breasts done on the NHS! You do mean breast reductions? Not implants.
I agree with breast reductions on the NHS that is done for the health of the patient etc.
I dont think laser eye surgery is just cosmetic though some people can have terrible eye sight with out contact lenses or glasses it would be quite scary to be somewhere lose your glasses or contacts lenses and not be able to see!
But there are more important things to be treated.

You don't need the eye surgery because you can feel the boobs even if you can't see them.

no funds left. after stock piles of heroin..

Its considered cosmetic.

Boob jobs on the NHS are not usually for cosmetic reasons.

Reduction due to curving of the spine.

Re construction following breast surgery.

hi, you can get laser eye surgery on the nhs, you just have to be passed over by your doctor (i mean your doctor needs to write a letter to the hosp)...

It's a man's world out there. Have you heard the saying "Shake your money maker?" You shake eyes and it don't mean a thing. Shake your boobs and you got my attention.Unfortunately, boob jobs are higher demand than eye jobs. It's a business thing. They go where they can make a profit with less the risk.

because the NHS has no money, or room to be giving out free lazer eye surgery

the only way the NHS could afford to do that free is if taxes increased so much so that u end up payin the equivalent of 3 lazer eye surgeries on top of the current tax by the end of your life

so just save up, it's not that expensive, am sure u spend 拢100 a year on glasses or contacts, it costs about 拢700 for both eyes to b lazered, if u think u r gonna live for more than 7 more years, then my advice is pay for the surgery

Isn't this considered a cosmetic surgery. Of course the NHS are not going to allow it. Plus me thinks you are being silly to suggest wearing glasses is distressing. If you want it, save up and pay for it yourself. You can't expect everything to be free.

Lasik and Laser eye surgery is very safe nowadays. My cousin got her dental implants and lasik surgery in India by a company called Forerunners Healthcare. The Price for dental and lasik surgery is very less in India. She paid 25% of the price she was quoted in America.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India They arrange Dental surgery, jaw surgery, lasik eye surgery, Dental Implants etc for foreign patients in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines- about their patient stories.
They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low cost, as dental and eye surgery is not covered by insurance. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Hope this helps.

There are more life-threatening operations the NHS has to fund, not forgetting how cash-strapped it is at the moment. If you want to elect to have surgery, that is your own choice to do so.
