I'm a young teen, and have laryngitis. I can just barely talk in my normal voice, not even close to being able to sing though. The reason I'm mentioning singing is because I have voice lessons on Tuesday with the bestestestest coolest voice teacher in the world Meg, and I really don't want to miss it because it's only my third lesson.
For the past few days, I have experienced pain when swallowing, and a mild sore throat when talking. Today I woke up and I could only speak in a whisper, but now I can just barely talk. Also, I don't feel ill besides my throat.
My ex-music teacher (I had her in elementary) suggests 1 cup apple cider, 1 tbs apple cider vinegar, 1 tbs oney, combine all ingridents, heat to boiling and sip like tea. Does that sound like it would cure my laryngitis? If anyone else has any tips or little things that could help, they would be very appreciated. Laryngitis is another word for a sore throat. First you should rest your voice. Too much using of your larynx, increases the inflammation. dont talk, sing or shout for a couple of days. Gargle with hot water to which turmeric powder is added. Do this atleast 4 times a day. You should feel better.

You may need to drink more than 1 cup, though, so triple the recipe and have it ready. Hey, Im not a music teacher or anything, but I make hot lemon/honey tea when my throat hurts. Its incredibly soothing, and helpful for your voice.
You mix in a cup one teaspoon of manuka honey, and the juice from half-whole lemon squeezed into it... then add boiling water and drink. Is quite pleasant.
Also try resting your voice when possible, and keep fluids up. Take paracetamol for the pain.
Good luck! may result from prolonged straining of the voice. It also may occur as an isolated local infection of the larynx , In most cases, however, it is a minor ailment and clears up on its own within a few days or weeks
Acute laryngitis may result from excessive strain on the vocal cords, as occurs with activities such as yelling, cheering, singing, or public speaking.
Postnasal drip, allergies, or inhalation of smoke fumes, or caustic chemicals can irritate the larynx and cause inflammation
Chronic laryngitis may be caused by excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, or constant exposure to dust or chemical irritants like paint remover.
Chronic upper respiratory tract disorders such as sinusitis, bronchitis, nasal polyps, and allergies can cause chronic laryngitis.
Repeated episodes of acute laryngitis may eventually lead to chronic laryngitis.
Gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn) may ulcerate the larynx.
If laryngitis is caused by a bacterial infection, antibiotics will be prescribed.
Some palliative measures that can be taken include:
Avoid public speaking during recovery
Be aware that whispering puts greater strain on the vocal cords than normal speaking
Inhale steam from a bowl of hot water or from a warm shower
Drink warm, soothing liquids (but do not drink alcoholic beverages)
Try a cool-mist humidifier; avoid air conditioning
Use nonprescription pain relievers and throat lozenges to ease the discomfort
Avoid cigarettes until the symptoms have subsided
Above all, make sure that the underlying cause of chronic laryngitis has been diagnosed and treated.
certain precautions to cure it faster -- Don't gargle - A good gargle may seem like an obvious remedy, but it will actually do more harm than good. "Gargling doesn't seem to reach down into the larynx where the irritated or inflamed tissue is
--- Stay completely quiet. And that means avoiding whispering, too. It's a given that talking should be avoided: It strains your vocal cords, prolonging or worsening laryngitis. But its a little-known fact that whispering can be just as bad, or even worse.
--- Lead your hoarse to water. Downing at least eight glasses of water a day--and preferably ten--ensures that your larynx stays moist, a key step in curing laryngitis. The water should be warm or room temperature--not overly hot or cold. And don't add salt or alcohol.
---- Avoid aspirin. If you've lost your voice because you were yelling too loudly, you've probably ruptured a capillary. So stay away from aspirin
--- Choose cough drops wisely. Avoid mint and mentholated products, which are too drying.
--- Get steamed. Hanging your head over a steaming bowl of water for five minutes two to four times a day can restore lost moisture in your throat and quicken healing time. If you have a cold-air humidifier, that also does the trick. 1) Give your voice a rest. Do not talk today or tomorrow. Use a note pad & pen to write, instead.
2) If you have either a humidifier or vaporizer, let it run in your bedroom while you sleep. This will help soothe your throat as you breath.
3) Eat lots of fresh fruits & veggies to get some good nutrition, as you'll need this to recover. If you have a multi-vitamin/mineral supplement, be sure to take it. |
