Laryngitis and antibiotics??

I think I might have laryngitis...I have had a mild cold for over a week and just last night started developing a pretty bad sore throat. Tonight my throat doesnt hurt anymore but my voice is really raspy and I feel like I am losing my voice. Everyone I have talked to thinks its probably laryngitis and I have a doc. appt. scheduled tomorrow, but I am really eager to know what the treatment will be if it is laryngitis. I am really hoping that it can be treated with antibiotics but nothing that I have read has been very specific. Can anyone please tell me what the chances are that I can be prescribed antibiotics?? My symptoms are a raspy voice, constant feeling like I need to clear my throat, coughing, and phlem coming loose with coughing so I guess some mucous. Before I developed these symptoms I had had cold symptoms of a slight sore throat and then nasal congestion and plugged ears, progressing on to a runny nose and less congestion and now the throat and hoarse voice. Thanks :)

Ps The reason I need to know so badly is that I have a son (3 weeks old) in the hospital in the next town who was born 12 weeks premature and since coming down with the cold nearly two weeks ago I havent been allowed to see him, I am getting really desperate to get over this and found out tonight that there is a chance that if I get antibiotics to treat it I can see him within 24 hours of starting it...otherwise it will be 48 hours after my symptoms clear up which could be even another week =S So I am just really hoping I might get to see him in a day or two. Thanks again everyone for whatever info you can give me.

It could be a 70% chance that youd get anti-biotics, but that really more if you have a sort of infection. But what also can work is both a shot or injection of Rocephin and or Depomedrol; which the rocephin has antibiotics with in it.

could be - if it is don't talk. don't even whisper (that's worse on your vocal chords). write what you want to say.
