Laryngitis; what if you keep talking ? |
i had a minor cold a few days ago and now as a result i have laryngitis; the best way to get rid of it is to not talk like at all all day; but what happens if u do talk ? will it get worser? and how long till it goes away if u talk anyways? nd how long till it goes away if u dont talk ? Talking when you need to is ok..Just dont whisper..makes it worse. I kept talking and I didn't get my voice back for a month. If you say a few things here and there it wont do much damage. If you are constantly talking you will just end up irritating your layrnx more and probably worsen the problem. Your vocal cords are two sail-shaped membranes with thickenings on the inside edge. The hole between them, where air goes in and out, is V-shaped. When you have laryngitis, the cords become red and swollen. Beating them against each other is not the way to let them heal. Imagine bruising both your ankles or thumbs. Banging them against each other would not be something you'd willingly do very often. Speaking can make the difference between a few days' hoarseness and several weeks' complete loss of voice. Even whispering tenses the cords and delays healing. Having laryngitis is not fun. I had it. It was so horrible and painful that I had to go to the hospital. I could not even talk, only whisper. Such a burning sensation that I felt I was losing my voice. So, try whispering or writing notes. Because your larynx needs time to heal. The doctor may prescribe you a pain medication for your throat. Feel better. |
