Could I have Laryngitis? |
For the past 2 days, I have had a sore throat, the kind you get right before you get sick. This morning, it got even worse and now I am coughing. If you have a high fever and feel like a truck ran you over it is the flu. If not, probably a cold w/ laryngitis. Drink lots of fluids, rest your throat-no unnecessary talking, no yelling, etc. Gargle w/ salt water. Hope you feel better soon. When your voice goes away, then it will be laryngitis. This can happen for any reason-- cold, flu, fever, shock, talking or singing too much, etc. Give your voice as much rest as you can and use cough drops so the cough doesn't strain your throat, too. Most upper respiratory infections are viral in nature, and laryngitis just means something has inflammed your larynx, or vocal chords. It is best when you do start to loose your voice is to gargle with warm salt wate... you need to relax your voice and dont talk, or it will get worse.. try drinking hot fluids, like coffee or hot tea.... this will help a little.... ...Viral laryngitis is contageous. If you get it from screaming at the top of your lungs, its not contageous. ...try not too talk, some chloraseptic spray to numb it might help if there is pain.
