How to treat laryngitis?

I had the flu a couple of days ago, and started developing laryngitis early yesterday. I have a hoarse voice now (which I've been straining my heart out at a party last night, bad girl), and I've looked up some ways to soothe the throat or speed up the healing process of my inflamed vocal chords. Unfortunately, my little research left me kind of confused. Please help me out.

Questions:

1. Which actually helps my throat? COLD or WARM compress?
2. Which should I drink? ICE COLD or WARM stuff?
3. My throat actually doesn't hurt (when I swallow, talk, etc.); I just happen to have lost my voice. Will lozenges and honey tea still help? I don't want anything to ease the pain, as I don't have any. I just want my voice back.

P.S. I've wrapped my throat with a big bandanna to keep it warm. Will it help?

Thank you!

First, stop talking including whispering completely. Time is the only real healer and you will need to stop straining your vocal chords. If you don't callouses will build up and the inflammation of the muscles will not lessen because you will keep injuring them.

Warm fluids like tea with honey and lemon are soothing. Gargle warm with salt water or baking soda water several times a day. this kills germs and is very soothing to your throat.

Note: Yelling for prolonged periods can cause polyps to grow on your vocal chords making you unable to speak at all. The only solution is surgery.

Take care of your voice

Ibuprofen because laryngitis is an inflammation problem. Tea with honey and lemon helps soothe the throat. Drink lots of water and avoid anything that makes using your throat necessary or lots of breathing (talking and exercise). If you begin to feel worse you may need antibiotics or steroids.
Also, a humidifier may help and breathing steam.

Tepid water is actually the best. Hot compounds the swelling, and cold can cause paroxysmal coughing.
Voice rest is the only answer. It includes:
No loud whispering
No yelling
No coughing or throat-clearing-- drink tepid water, instead.
No singing or humming
Talk as little as is feasible.
Lozenges won't do anything for you.
Liquids never touch the vocal cords. If they do, you will have the coughing fit of your life.
Compresses are external and will not reach the vocal cords, which are actually protected by the thyroid cartilage ("Adam's apple"). Likewise with the bandanna.
You won't get nodules from a virus. They only form when there is chronic voice abuse, like cheerleaders engage in. Polyps form with allergies, not from voice abuse.
I hope I've cleared some things up for you.
