Lactose Intolerance - On and Off??

Whenever I consume milk, its only because I eat cereal. But within the last 5 months, I've became lactose intolerant(on and off). I have noticed that sometimes whenever I do consume it, I won't take on any of the effects of being lac intol. Other days, I'll eat my bowl of cereal and within 3-5 hours I get the typical effects of lactose intolerance.

And I know they sell the "Lactase" milk but I in all honestly don't mind drinking regular milk because I just love cereal so much even though I might be getting really really minor "stomach cramps" later on that day and the rest of the stuff you get along with it.

SO my question is why isn't it a permanent thing thats going on in my case? Sometimes it'll be perfectly fine, other times I am fully lactose intolerant.

I am similar. For a while it was only milk and ice cream that bothered me, but recently yogurt and some cheeses have been bothering me too.
It might be what you are having the dairy with or how much you have as to whether or not you are affected.
As for lactose free milk- Lactaid is actually very good. I can't tell the difference.

This is a good answer someone gave me about Lactose Intolerance:

dont drink or eat milk products- idiot:)

Any dairy products stay away from...cheese, yogurt, milk etc...and if that doesn't work and you see the same effects even if you don't consume dairy then check if you have some sort of virus or a stomach problem with your doc.

will be continous I have the same thing you have a minor intolerance look into pills like Lactaid or something like that it should work

This happens to me. If I only consume milk, ice cream, or pizza once in a while it doesn't affect me. If I have it regularly then I will get sick.

I love cereal, but I usually use vanilla yogurt instead of milk.

Oddly enough I can have as much yogurt as I want and it does not bother me.

The stomach cramp thing makes me think you may have another condition that sometimes goes along with lactose intolerance - gluten intolerance. Gluten grains are wheat, barley, rye and oats. So if you have different kinds of cereal, and are noticing different reactions depending on what grain is involved - gluten may be the cause. Gluten intolerance is also known as celiac/sprue.
