Lactose intolerance?

If you're lactose intolerant, does that mean that whenever you eat dairy, your body can't digest it properly, so you don't absorb the calories and nutrients and protein from it? Or do you still?

You will still absorb some of the calories and nutrients, however the gastric distress that comes with lactose intolerance will make you believe nothing can possibly be absorbed. You certainly won't absorb all of the nutrients that's for sure.

i don't know. I just get sick... im lactose intollerant

It means you cannot metabolize it properly.

"Lactose intolerance (or hypolactasia) is the term used to describe a decline in the level of lactase, an enzyme needed for proper metabolization of lactose (a sugar that is a constituent of milk and other dairy products), in human beings."

Well your body is still able to absorb other thing just not lactase

It messes up digestion, but it still goes through your intestines so the stuff has to be eventually absorbed into your body. Just... maybe not the lactose because it's not properly digested.

Lactose intolerance can sometimes be alterred by eating more dairy products. Builds up the digestive chemicals etc that digest lactose. But... I hardly think it's pleasant...

My brother is lactose intolerance. But the doctor said that if he would happen to eat any dairy products, his throat would get itchy, and it causes diarrhea. It also may cause death i think (if eaten too many dairy products). i think that eventually you will not be able to digest it properly, but i dont no what happens then.

Yes, to get calcium in your diet eat dark green vegetables such as broccoli, or fish with soft, edible bones, such as salmon and sardines. yogurt with active cultures. Aged cheeses, orange juice with calcium

you still get the calories, it just does not digest easily--causes upset stomach and what not

lactose ( milk sugar ) is a poly saccaride . it is made up of two simpler sugars . most people have the lactase enzyme that breaks the molecule apart into the simpler sugars , so that it can be properly digested . some don't .
