Relief for lactose intolerance?

I'm either lactose intolerant or allergic to milk. I was dairy free for 18 months while breastfeeding and have been having issues ever since I reintroduced dairy. I realize that the best option would be to cut out all dairy, but I really like ice cream, bagels and cream cheese, pizza, cheese etc. I've been taking the once a day lactose intolerance pills (says 1 a day for 2 days then only 1 a day, but some ppl need 2 a day) 2 a day, but am still having issues. Should I try a different lactose pill like the one you take just before eating dairy, or are they all pretty much the same? I also still have issues with the lactose free milk, even though it's supposed to be 100% lactose free. I have a dr appt, but it's not for 3 weeks and want to have some relief in the mean time. Thanks

matthewsmommy - If you are lactose intolerant, that just means your body doesn't make enough of the digestive enzyme lactase. Most people over the age of 12 do not produce enough of this enzyme.

There's no need to take a pill everyday for lactose intolerance, just take Lact-aid right before you eat anything dairy. Or just get some generic digestive enzymes (from your local health food store) that contain lactase.

Lact-aid and digestive enzymes are a LOT CHEAPER than your doctor's prescription and work a lot better.

Try raw milk and raw milk products. Raw milk contains lactase which breaks down the lactose. Pasteurization kills the lactase, along with a plethora of other things.
