Lactose intolerance in children?


we have tried SEVERAL options to cure the symptoms of diarreaha,vomiting,and pain, (minus fever) i knew it wasnt a cold...than a friend suggested lactoce intloerance. i omitted dairy prodcuts (cheese,yogurt,milk) from her diet for 24 hrs, no problems, than gave her a bowl of cereal wich almost immediatly turned into pain. so i purchased an over the counter medicine for children with lactose intolerance and she was able to drink milk all week with out pain...i was so excited to find relief for her. until today she has started to complained about pain, even with out eating dairy and while taking the pill. i'm worried that some damage could have been done to her stomach through this whole ordeal...is that possible? or could it be she just caught a stomach flu thats going around.

wow no one has dealt with this? does anyone know if they can grow out of it?

my god daughter is like this. she cant have any milk what so ever (just like 2 % or skim when cooking with milk) and even then in moderation.

she is only allowed to have soy milk in her diet to drink. i would call your ped to see what they would suggest. if it is accompanied by a fever and extream pains i would go to the emergency room to be sure it is not something else.

As an old man who has been lactose intolerant all my life, I can attest to the pain and discomfort. Buy a store brand of Imodium and read all labels. You must understand that caseinates and anything that says lactic acid (olives, for example) contain dairy products. Cold cuts, processed meats, margarines, cakes, candies, breads, dry cereals, bakery products, etc contain milk. Learn to look for kosher or parve labels on food products. No milk products in them.

Lactose intolerance is not unusual, in fact, it is a problem for many people. It is not something to be afraid of or worry about because we shouldn't be drinking milk after one year old anyway. The cereals you buy in the store are garbage and have very little nutritional value and can actually cause harm from the synthetic vitamins they put in them as well as the genetically modified ingredients they are now using.

The milk, contrary to popular belief, you buy in stores is pasturized and this destroys the valuable things milk can have. I suggest you purchase dairy products like Keifer milk that is delicious and contains friendly bacteria. This will be no problem for lactose intolerant people. Yogurt can be well tolerated as well because these types of milk are "predigested" by the friendly bacteria we all need. Also, these forms of milk are good food for these bacteria that are part of the digestive system in our bodies.

You will want to supplement her diet with foods rich in calcium and avoid like the plague "CALCIUM CARBONATE." This form of calcium is promoted like a great thing, but it is the cheapest form of calcium and is not from living sources. It is toxic to the body and usually ends up in parts of the body causing lots of problems. Calcium Carbonate is blackboard chalk. Only take dietary calcium.

I would suggest purchasing a good probiotic from this company as well.

The body has the incredible ability to heal itself if given the right nutrients and it is amazing to me how long the body can survive things like the American diet. The rampant degenerative diseases we face as a culture is a result of the deterioration of our food supplies forced upon us by chemical companies and companies like Monsanto that is genetically altering seeds that are geared toward selling more seeds and not caring about our health.
