What is lactose intolerance?

Can you guys please give me a simple answer? Just tell me what lactose intolerance basically is because I have completely no idea what lactose intolerance is besides it has something to do with dairy products....

Thanks in advance!

lactose is sugar found in milk, if you cant digest it then it causes diarrhoea, and poor absorbion of the nutrients in the foods you eat. Therefore, you dont get the good benefits from the foods you are consuming. I think it is possible to get enzyme supplements to take with your diet that help break down the lactose, so that you can continue to consume dairy products. If not then it is best to avoid dairy products in future.

its like no milk and cheese and other stuff with dairy products

Your body rejects any thing with dairy, so you basically have an ice cream, and you're in the bathroom like 5 minutes later.

you can't have anything with dairy in it. You're body can't handle it.

It means that a person can't handle dairy products. Some people can't eat any what-so-ever, others are only slightly affected and have to watch the amount they consume. Typically if a person is lactose intolerant and they consume dairy they end up feeling pretty sick (upset stomachs), some actually end up vommiting. There are medications out there to help deal with it, but it's not treatable as it's not something that will just go away.

Hope this helps. :-)

Your body can't digest lactose, which is dairy sugar.

If you are lactose intolerant, you can't eat dairy products because you can't digest the sugars. When you do eat dairy products, you might have cold-like symptoms, or diarrhea.

For me, when I eat dairy products, my nose runs like crazy and mucous gets caught in my throat. It feels like a very bad cold.

Hi. That means that you are allergic to dairy based products because your stomach will not be able to consume dairy products leading to diarrahoea. Please check the label before buying any products in the supermarket.

Lactose is a type of sugar found in milk. People who are lactose intolerant lack the enzyme lactase that assist in the digestion of lactose. If a person who is lactose intollerant drinks milk s/he usually get stomach cramps and the runs.

There are medications you can take if you are mildly lactose intollerant. However if a person is severly lactose intollerant there is nothing that can be done. This condition is not curable.

Yep, the dairy products. Especially you are allergic to milk. After that you'd have to consider all the milk products: butter, ice cream, cheese... Just think about what is made from the milk a cow or goat gives, and those are iffy for you if you are lactose intolerant.

Soy milk is good, though... esp. Soy Silk, I think the brand is. And tofu adds a good filler and taste (if prepared properly) to lots of dishes. Soy is full of good-for-you stuff, too. I rarely use or eat soy but when I do I wonder why I don't more often... it may look funny but it tastes good. ( tinylol)

Good luck if you have this lactose intolerance; it calls for a pretty big change... but you can do it. ;-}

Carbohydrate intolerance is an inability to digest certain carbohydrates due to a lack of one or more intestinal enzymes. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal distention, and flatulence. Diagnosis is clinical and by H2 breath test. Treatment is removal of the causative disaccharide from the diet.
Please see the web pages for more details on Lactose intolerance.

Lactose intolerance (or hypolactasia) is the term for the normal decline in the level of lactase, an enzyme needed for proper metabolization of lactose (a sugar that is a constituent of milk and other dairy products), in human beings after weaning.

You are allergic to dairy.

Lactose intolerance occurs because your body has insufficient amounts of lactase (the enzyme that breaks down the sugar lactose, found in dairy products). Lactose intolerance is NOT an allergy. An allergy is an immune system overreaction to an innoucous substance. Lactose intolerance has nothing to do with the immune system or an overreaction of any kind, it is simply a lack of an enzyme.

Depending on how much lactase you have (it is normal for your lactase levels to decrease as you age), you may be able to eat/drink dairy products as long as you don't overdo it. I have no problem eating cheese or butter, but if I drink more than one small glass of milk in a day, my intestines become very angry with me. There is lactose free milk or soy milk or you can buy pills (over the counter) that contain lactase.

u cant eat r drink anything that is dairy

Your body is not able to break down lactose, which is the type of sugar found in milk and other dairy products.
