What are the symptoms of lactose intolerance? Anyone here experienced this?

I'm 28 years old and never had problems with dairy products before, but after ongoing health problems lactose intolerance has been suggested to me.

Can consuming a lot of dairy products cause lactose intolerance?

I have been lactose intolerant for years. There are many different symptoms, but I think the most common ones are cramps, diarrhea, constipation, bloating. In my case, it even gave me horrible migraines. You can use Lactaid products and pills to ward off any of those uncomfortable symptoms when eating dairy products or even try soy products instead of dairy. They now make milk, cheese and all sorts of great, tasty food with no dairy whatsoever.

I agree with thepathfinder804's answer too; that's exactly what I did to verify if I was lactose intolerant: I stopped all dairy consumption for 1 month and tried again 1 day and I knew then and there that I was lactose intolerant.

It doesn't matter how much you like milk and cheese and how much you eat, you can become lactose intolerant. I used to drink a quart of milk each day, loved it. Then I started having trouble with constant diarrhea and gas. Finally I tested myself like this:

Stop all dairy intake for 2 days, treat diarrhea on day 1 with Immodium AD, if the symptoms don't reappear on day 2, drink a glass of milk. If you're ok 3 hours later, you're not lactose intolerant.
