How long should i fast before taking laboratory tests?

i forgot to ask my doctor how long should i fast before taking glucose, cholesterol and urinary tests....

its between 12 to 15 hrs ...better close to 15 hrs.

I would call and double check with your doctor, but usually it is a 12 hour fast.

12 hours straight. only water is allowed. i have taken the test before.

No need to fast, enjoy and feast

ask the doctor

i think u should ask the doctor because he is the one that knows the real answer for this

Check with your doctor. It is however usually 12 hours.

If you can't call your doctor right now, call the ER and they can tell you how long to fast for this particular test.

You can fast for 8-12 hours, make sure that you don't drink water.

Some lab tests do not require fasting so check with your doctor first. Usually fasting is to start after midnight the night before the test

You should ask the lab..each test needs a different amount of fasting..IE..glucose is 12 to 14 hours depending on the hospital lab...urinary depending on what they are testing for varies..ie calcium no fasting needed..the doctors sometimes do not know the amount of time that is needed and its not you who forgot to ask it is the doctor who should of told you..Good Luck with all your tests!

All fasting test are different usually 12-24 hours. If you need to fast for a lab test you should call your doctor and find out the fasting requirements for the lab work you need to have done.
