What does RELATED TESTS means in laboratory tests? Is this the same with PANEL TESTS? |
Is the purpose of having these so called panel tests is to identify the real cause of the symptoms the patient is having? I don鈥檛 think 鈥渞elated test鈥?is a formal term in clinical laboratory, there is something call a reflex test which help laboratorian confirm result, for example if a urine analysis come up positive for bacteria, then we will reflex to microscopic examination to look for bacteria, or an abnormal automated complete blood count show flag for leukemia cells, we will do a manual differential to confirm. Panel test usually refer to chemistry testing panel like basic metabolic panel, renal panel, liver function test, etc. They are group according to what the doctor what to access, for example if the doctor are interest in your acid/base ratio, the basic metabolic panel can help, renal panel as it name implied access kidney function, and so on. I believe the CMS create the panel so they are reimbursable, laboratory can鈥檛 edit those panel to get a higher reimbursement. |
