What is prion and is there any laboratory test to detect it? |
What is prion and is there any laboratory test to detect it? Prion can be detected through PCR ( Polymerase Chain reaction ), the same rationale with we are reproducing DNA strands. So, laboratory who offers DNA test can help you our in detection of Prion (but what in particular ?)Hope this helps. God bless A prion is a protein that has the ability to reproduce itself, usually by causing the refolding of a normal protein into a prion form. They are responsible for BSE, or "mad cow" disease, as well as some very rare human diseases such as kuru or creutzfeldt-Jacob disease. There is not a simple test that I know of for any prion, usually they are found by histology, which involves taking a biopsy of the infected tissue (which is not generally done in living sufferers of these disease since they affect the brain and have no treatment) and specific histochemical staining. |
