Who Here Really Believes that People really Have Fibromyalgia?

The primary symptoms of fibromyalgia include widespread musculoskeletal pain, severe fatigue, and disturbed sleep. Fibromyalgia means pain in the muscles, ligaments, and tendons 鈥?the soft fibrous tissues in the body. Most patients with fibromyalgia say that they ache all over. Their muscles may feel like they were pulled or overworked. Sometimes fibromyalgia symptoms include muscle twitches and burning sensations.
Currently there are no laboratory tests available for diagnosing fibromyalgia. Doctors must rely on patient histories, self-reported symptoms, a physical examination and an accurate manual tender point examination. It is estimated that it takes an average of five years for an FM patient to get an accurate diagnosis. Many doctors are still not adequately informed or educated about FM. Laboratory tests often prove negative
To receive a diagnosis of FM, the patient must meet the following diagnostic criteria:
So tell me do you think it is real or Just made up for Pain MEDS

Ok first Off I very Much Beleave that It is Real , Im asking Because I get this sh** from everyone all the time about how it is not Real. But as I wrote in the answers I never said that it wasn;t real I put facts about how bad this is. So PLease don't think i dont beleave it. Because I do know how bad they suffer I suffer every day.....

To Anyone who believes that Fibromyalgia is not real or not actually diagnosable check with the Arthritis Foundation and request the book "Your Personal Guide to Living Well with Fibromyalgia" copy write and printed in 1997 by the Arthritis Foundation.
To anyone who has Fibromyalgia and is thoroughly fed up with the ignorant people who think if it is not bleeding or broken it is not real get this book so you can use it to help your Dr with treatment and Management of Fibro. It has been a godsend to my family and friends.
Actually there are lab tests that are being used in conjuntion with the History and Physical for diagnosing Fibromyalgia.
Tell me if you have Fibro why would you post a question of this nature which has probably upped quite a few Fibro patients stress level, when you know that reaction is going to make there next 24 hours worse.... are you frustratd with your care, just having a bad day so you thought you would mess up some others also....My friends first reaction was to want to reach out and smack you.....
I think you need a support group, check out on line I know there are several.

Many "made-up" diseases are later understood when medicine advances. I would not assume that FM is baseless.

My mother has Fibro, & takes no meds, does not want to either. She has had to tolerate that line of thinking for years, but I have watched her deal with it. Many times there will be an elavated sed. rate & markers for auto immune disease. Lupus runs in our family. So no, I don't think that all these people are drug seeking!

I have a friend with fibromyalgia, and she is in constant pain.
That girl is in so much pain, you can't even touch her to help her stand up.

I don't think anyone is that good of an actress. It's definitely real.

I get many patients that suffer from it and it is very real, and painful although some do claim the symptoms to misuse the medication.

HI Shy Town

I would do either of the following for your pain: Reiki, Healing Touch, and Therapeutic Touch, all of which can significantly improve fibromyalgia pain symptoms, and which can be taught to patients as a form of self-care, as well as being provided by professional energy healers.

Causes of Fibromyalgia
There is not one specific cause for primary fibromyalgia. Certain common features among fibromyalgia patients provide a better idea as to the primary factors that are involved in its onset, however. These include dental amalgam fillings, hormone imbalances, infection, neurotransmitter imbalances, sleep problems, problems with the thalamus gland, and physical trauma. Other factors that can play a role include chemical and food allergies and sensitivities, chronic stress, and dysfunctions in system.muscle metabolism.

Conventional physicians treat fibromyalgia primarily through the use of painkiller medications. Such an approach fails to address the multiple causes of fibromyalgia, and also carries with it the risk of serious side effects. In addition, this symptom care approach is typical of conventional medicine`s failure to properly understand chronic health conditions such as fibromyalgia, which explains why it so often fails to successfully treat such conditions. Practitioners of alternative medicine, on the other hand, focus their treatment approaches on the multiple factors involved in fibromyalgia in order to eliminate them, while simultaneously stimulating the body`s ability to repair itself. What follows is an overview of some of the most common therapies they employ in order to achieve those goals

Quick Action Plan for Fibromyalgia

1. A healthy, whole foods diet is an important part of any fibromyaglia treatment program. Emphasize organic foods, especially fresh, organic vegetables, and drink plenty of pure, filtered water throughout the day. For even more benefits, consider adopting a vegetarian diet, which has been shown to significantly reduce fibromyalgia symptoms.

2. Essential nutrients to help treat fibromyalgia include vitamin C, vitamin E, niacinimide (vitamin B3), eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA-an essential fatty acid), magnesium, selenium, zinc, and the lipotrophic factors inositol, methionine, and phosphatidyl choline. The nutritional supplements cetyl myristoleate and SAMe are also highly beneficial, as it the Meyers Cocktail, which must be administered by a trained health care practitioner.

3. Herbal remedies for fibromyalgia include cayenne and chamomile. An herbal combination of tinctures of black cohosh, celery, dandelion, devil`s claw, Echinacea, and licorice in equal parts, can also be helpful.

4. Homeopathic remedies for fibromyalgia include Arnica, Bryonia, and Rhus. Tox.

5. Various bodywork therapies, such as Massage, Acupressure, Bowen Therapy, Feldenkrais, myotherapy, Rolfing, Shiatsu, Therapeutic Touch, and Trigger Point Therapy, can provide significant relief of fibromyalgia pain and speed healing.

6. Mind/body medicine therapies such as biofeedback, guided imagery and visualization, hypnotherapy, and meditation, can help relieve chronic stress, thereby soothing muscle tension and reducing pain

7. Be sure to do a colon and liver cleanse to clean out the toxins in the colon and the blood. Most important step is cleansing and detoxifying the body.

Best of health to you

I really think its a madeup disease...so people can get their Lyrica, Vicodin, Percocet, Darvocet....anything controlled....its really shameful
