Rabbits are traditional. Before rabbit testing cosmetic companies were responsible for many cases of blindness due to the ingredients in their mascara and eye liner. After that fact was publicized and tests were required that cause of blindness was pretty-much eliminated by pre-testing using rabbits.

Now the trend is toward no animal testing. Here comes the blindness epidemic again.
