Problem in Liver?

one year ago, i made a Laboratory Report which showed 2 unusual things, they are called :
Serum GOT (AST) 56 U/L (Normal Range 0-37)
Serum GPT (ALT) 96 U/L (Normal Range 0-40)

Its like that, i dont understand what they mean, but i know there is a problem related to the liver.

I made this test before beginign a new Diet, I was 120 Kg (My height is around 185) , In 3 months i was in range 105 Kg, But from this time i didn't continue because of the college made my eating system and timing unstable.
Although i try to follow this diet again, But some thing strange happens to my abdomen (belly), its strangly inflated... i feel that every new day.

I know its normal to have some "Belly" after a diet, but its inflating and my weight still the same !

Is this related to the liver? some wrong with it can cause this ?

Please answer me :(

Relax, been in your shoes. The above test measures certain enzymes produced by the liver. Your levels are above normal, but not excessively high.

The enzymes are high because you either have a fatty liver, just like I do, which is hereditary and there is nothing u can do about it. It can also be a sign that you are overweight and once u decrease the amount of fat in your diet, you will be back to normal.

On the short run, your liver is fine, do not worry about it. On the long run, you will need to keep an eye on your diet, try to cut out as much fat as possible. Years and years of high GOT & GPT will slowly cause problems to your liver. But this does not happen in 5 or even 10 years, it really depends on how old you are now and your diet in the future.

Check with immediate relatives first and ask them if anyone had liver problems and/ or high enzyme rates, if positive, then hereditary. I have the same problem and was told that I need to start eating right once I hit 40.

There are two main tests to check the liver
and one test to check for infections.
The first one is the liver enzymes...these are
the ones you mentioned above. They can
be elevated if you had the test done after
you exercised...but there is a chance that
they could be elevated because of the
liver cells being damaged or stressed.
The other tests are the liver function tests
known as bilirubin, albumin, and INR.
These tests show how well the liver is
functioning to do the job it usually does to
keep the body healthy. Also there is a
test to see if you contacted a viral or
bacterial Hepatitis...which is commonly
known as Hep A,B, or C.

Another blood test will show the doctor
more of what is happening. There is
a condition that happens when someone
has a liver problem known as
Ascites, which is the developing of fluid
in the abdomen because the liver isn't
able to make the protein albumin that
would normally keep the fluids in our vessels. When it becomes low in the blood,
the fluid leaks out and collects in the
abdominal area. However, this usually
causes an increase in weight from this
fluid.
To be safe, I would be checked out and
be sure what is happening.
Liver problems develop because of
inflammation in the liver cells.
The causes can be any of the following:
(1) alcohol consumption
(2) medication intoxification or taking
medication that is hard on the liver...all
medications should be taken only from
a doctor that prescribes them as
medications are processed through the
liver first before going to the rest of the body.
(3) chemical exposure
(4) hereditary problems
(5) biliary problems
(6) mushroom poisoning
(7) fatty liver or Nash
(8) autoimmune disease
(9) bacterial or viral hepatitis
(10) combination of alcohol and drugs

I hope this is of some help.
The best doctors to go to are a
gastroenterologist or hepatologist if
this does turn out to be a liver problem.

The doctor can feel your abdominal area
and see if the liver is enlarged or an
ultrasound or Ct scan will show it. If there
is inflammation in the liver, they can
give you medication to reduce it and the
liver cells can heal. If the inflammation
continues without treatment, it can lead
to death of the liver cells which cause
scar tissue to form inside the liver and
then becomes a very serious disease.

To put your mind at ease and to be sure
about this, I would see a doctor.

You should see a gastroenterologist. Elevated liver enzymes can be caused by many things, but you shouldn't guess or assume. I would also suggest you get tested for hepatitis B & C, as it can be asymptomatic for years. Many people (40%)with hepatitis C have liver enzymes within normal limits. Undiagnosed liver disease can lead to severe liver damage later in life (after 10 or 20 years). Just get checked by a good specialist to put any fears to rest. Best wishes.
