Are You Aware That The PROSPER Trial SHOWED The Highest Rates Of Survival In Those With HIGHEST LDL Levels?

Are you aware that

In the PROSPER Trial , which involved high risk elderly subjects the HIGHEST survival rates in both the treatment and control groups were seen amoung those with the HIGHEST LEVELS OF LDL AND TOTAL CHOLESTEROL.

Shepard J, et al. Pravastatin in elderly individuals at risk of vascular disease (PROSPER) : a randomized controlled trial . Lancet , Nov. 23, 2002 ; 360 (9346) : 1623 - 30

Looks like the MISinformed Harmony RELIES on AHA PROPAGANDA REVIEWS INSTEAD of READING THE FULL TEXT of the ORIGINAL STUDY- LIKE ANTHONY COLPO DOES.

Taking things out of context, yet again.

Too bad that YOU haven't read the studies in the full length originals.

Still not a question.

Still completely missing the point. HDL is the good cholesterol. And low HDL in the elderly (not the general population) is a better indicator of future heart disease than a high LDL.

In an untreated population those with higher total cholesterol will also have higher LDL and HDL. In younger patients a high LDL is a better indicator for future heart disease, in the elderly a low HDL is a better indicator for heart disease.

Medical experts think HDL tends to carry cholesterol away from the arteries and back to the liver, where it's passed from the body. Some experts believe HDL removes excess cholesterol from plaques and thus slows their growth. HDL cholesterol is known as "good" cholesterol because a high HDL level seems to protect against heart attack
