Lasik Eye Surgery at 40? Vic,AUSTRALIA?

Considering Lasik. Has anyone had the mono Lasik (one eye) that people my age do which assists to prolong the ability to be without glasses/contacts when the short sightedness naturally kicks in at around 45yrs. (oh to be young again)
Any advice/experience with Lasik Clinics in VICTORIA< Australia?

Monovision addresses the problem of presbyopia that most people start to encounter at the age of 40-45 when they begin to need reading glasses or bifocals for close vision. With monovision, the dominant eye (the eye you would use to focus a camera) is focused for distance vision, and the non-dominant eye is focused for near to intermediate vision.

Monovision certainly isn鈥檛 appropriate for everyone. However, when paired with the right person, it can be a great fit. Monovision is a blend of near and distance vision, and is ideal for people with an active lifestyle. However, there is a caveat to consider: since it is a compromise, most people鈥檚 vision isn鈥檛 perfectly crisp up close or far away. Instead, it offers the best of both worlds.

Most people who opt for monovision go through a brief period of adaptation as the brain 鈥渓earns鈥?to see with the eye best suited for the task. If you鈥檙e considering refractive surgery as a permanent form of monovision, it might be best to consider a 鈥渢est drive鈥?with contact lenses before making a decision.

When helping you to decide whether monovision is right for you, your doctor or eyecare professional may ask these questions:

-Do you enjoy golf or activities that require sharp distance vision?
-Do you read for long stretches or have a hobby that requires precise near vision?
-Do you drive extensively at night?
-Are you very discriminating about the quality of your vision?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, monovision may not be best suited to you. It鈥檚 ideal for those who are willing to accept a compromise so they can be as independent from glasses as possible.

Try a center called VistaEyes in Vic Dr Rick Wolfe he is very good.

Yes, definitely you can have LASIK even when you are in your 50s or 60s.

you will still have to wear glasses in a few years anyway, with or without the surgery, so why bother

Haai I am an Ophthamologist

If you are over 40 my advise would be to not to go for lasik. Because lasik corrects only distant vision, for near vision u still need to wear glasses. Best option would be to go for prelex, which is also called as presbyopic lens exchange.

In this the normal lenses in the eyes are removed and we implant multifocal lenses inside both the eyes. SO u dont have to wear glasses life long and additionaly u wont get cataracts any way.

Prelex is done in India at an affordable cost
