Lasik Eye Surgery (halos around light)?

I had standard lasik eyes surgery a week ago. I am doing good, but I see halos at night around the lights and it really gets to me. My doctor said they would go away in time. I was wondering if anyone else had the experience with lasik and if so how long before the halos go away. thanks

most commonly reported side effect of lasik. sometimes it never goes away.

but most of the time it goes away in a few weeks or less.

You have a higher chance of having that issue if treated with traditional or standard treatment instead of custom. It is sometimes temporary while healing but in some cases it is permanent. All you can do is wait and see!

Halos emitting from light sources in low light environments is a common Lasik complication during the early stages of healing. The problem ocurrs when the outer edge of the cornea (clear front of eye) has a different refractive error than the center. The symptom is called Spherical Aberration (SA).

In lighted environments your pupils constrict and only light passing through the center of your cornea enters the eye and is "seen". It appears that the center of your cornea focuses light very well.

In low light environments your pupils dilate and allow light at the edge of the cornea to enter and mix with the light from the center of the cornea. If the edge of your cornea does not accurately focus light, the combination of good focus and bad focus can present as a fuzzy halo around light sources (or reflective material).

One week after Lasik is way too early to be too concerned. Your corneas just had microsurgery and are healing. It is very likely that there is some corneal edema (swelling) that is causing or exacerbating the halo problem. Lasik induced temporary dry eyes will also exacerbate halos. These issues commonly resolve with management, treatment, and healing.

It is highly probable that your halos will resolve with healing. If they do not, you will want to discuss with your surgeon the possibility of Lasik enhancement surgery to be sure the corrected treatment zone on your cornea is equal to or larger than the size of your naturally dilated pupils.
