Lasik treatment for my eye?

i am thinking of getting lasik treatment for my eyes when my eye s stops getting worse. Currently my eyes are -6/-6.5(left/right), and my eye doctore told me that it's very likely that my vision will consistently get worse for another 5 years or so (b/c of my age, I guess? I am teen-aged). Is it safe to get lasik treatment? won't my eyes get worse after treatment?

I really want to get away from my glasses ASAP.(boy, do I look like a nerd in my glasses - no offence to anybody. I like nerds, and I am a science nerd myself. but I still want to look cool, you know.) I can't get contacts b/c my parents wont let me get it 'till I go to college.

Well your parents are right wait for a while then get it done wait till your atleast 18 and from what I heard it's great everyone i spoke with has liked it the only thing i've heard so far from one person that there not able to drive at night now because of it but i guess you take chances on everything.

Well personally I did my Lasik Procedure more than 16 months ago & it has been fantastic for me so far... No problems from Contact Lens or Glasses... Report It

Well you need to be older to get this procedure done as your vision is not stable yet which is why you should not get this procedure done too early in life. Report It

As you get older your vision deteriorates, so when it stablises in your early teens & the degrees on your glasses / contact does not fluctuates too much then you are ready... Report It

I've heard good & bad reviews on Lasik but at the end of the day personally it works for me & I do not have any problems with it... Report It

I know alot of people are worried about this procedure but then again the success rate is around 99%... What other procedure has such a high success rate?

But at the end of the day it is up to the individual... I hope that the people reading this has a better understanding of Lasik鈥? Report It

If your eyes are still changing, no reputable doctor should offer you LASIK. Wait until they stabilize, or you could be extremely sorry.

I don't understand, why would a dr. tell you your eyesight will get worse for next five years if you are so young? You might need a second opinion. I'd like to get lasik also, i'm kind of afraid though. Go online and read all you can about it, then go have the dr. tell you all about it first. Don't rush into it, check it out first.

Consult with the doctor first. My mom has bad eyes also, and they want her to get the surgery. She is actually scheduled next month, so if the doctor says yes, go for it.

Try to talk to your parents into letting you get contacts. Maybe they will go in 1/2 of the cost (if that is their concern). I wore contacts at 14 and got Lasix last year at 50. I LOVE IT!!!

Good Luck@@

It seems that if your parents won't let you get contacts, it would be even more unlikely that they would let you get surgery. And just like others have said, if your eyes are still changing, you should wait to get the surgery.

You have to be 18 with a stable refraction(prescription) for at least 6 months. Being as young as you are, I personally would not treat you until you were stable for 1 year. Find a reputable doc and make sure he/she has done many surgeries.
