Lasik surgury...I am looking at custom lasik from TLC for $4,200?

Have you gotten your eyes done, or know someone else who did? What did they pay and did they have custom lasik with the laser doing the cut on the eye flap instead of a blade? I just want to make sure I am not getting taken for a ride. Thanks everyone!

$4200 sounds like a very reasonable price. I had PRK done in June for $3800 (-$400 discount from my vision insurance).

I had custom wavefront PRK. The main difference between PRK and the LASIK is that I didn't have a flap made. My corneas were just too thin to support the flap and the amount of correction I needed. Just the outermost portion of my cornea (epithelium) was brushed off. The custom part comes in not from the access to the under layers of the cornea, but the laser doing the ablation to reshape your cornea.

My husband had LASIK with the microkeratome (blade) and his cost before our vision discount was $3400. His was also not the custom wavefront laser guidance.

Just be sure you research the surgeons on staff there. I've heard good things about TLC (tho that's not where my husband and I went), but it all depends on the surgeons as to the outcome.

When I was researching my top three choices for my LVC, the lowest price was mine after discount, the other two were $3600 (no discount and associated with a university ophthalmology program) and $4200 (no discount and private practice)...mine without discount at $3800 (at a laser vision correction center) was right in line....and it sounds as if the price TLC has given you is pretty much right in line with my research...especially with the custom.

Good luck and enjoy your results!! My hubby and I both do!

I did it, it cost even more, but it's worth it. You'll have dry eyes, but nothing you can't cope with, and you never need contacts again. If you're close to 40, ask about monovision so you can put off the need for reading glasses for a few years. I did it and I'm glad I did it.

I had both eyes done (Ladar - Radar guided Lasik)) Dec 1990 and Jan 1991 for $3,000 (US). I now have 20-15 (that's right - 15) vision in both eyes and use 1.25 readers.

I just got LASIK done at TLC for the same price one week ago! I am very happy with my vision. I went from 20/400 to 20/20 in a day! It is so cool. I think it is worth every penny. You can finance it too. It is such a huge benefit to your lifestyle and you'll never have enough money so just do it! You will be so glad you did. Everyone that I've talked to has said how happy they are and how they wished they would have done it sooner. The price is totally fair and you wouldn't want to go somewhere bad; they give you a lifetime guarantee. That's good.
