Advice me on lasik operation!?

i am looking forward to lasik operation to correct my eye vision
my age is 21 & power of my specs is around -7 & i am corrently using contact lens. should i go for lasik. is it safe as i heard that it may weaken the eye retina.if operated for once what r the chances of never having same problem with vision again lifetime. any other option over lasik to correct sight?

Hi there,
at such a young age, you need not go for surgery.
Maybe as age advances , if the power changes and corrects by itself...?

best wishes...

I have only heard of it going wrong. Yet I have personally seen it successful.
My co-worker had the operation and now has 20/20 vision.

you may be a good candidate for lasik, since -7 is a high prescription. i

just be sure that you may have compromised night vision (you may see light halos and other blurs in reduced lighting).

you may also want to be aware of your daily habits, that may be increasing the your nearsightedness. if you constantly use the computer or read things intently all the time, you may get some of that nearsightedness back.

Since every case is different, please consult with your optometrist first before making any decision.s

Best of luck in your quest for clear vision!

I had IntraLasik 10 days ago and love it. I have some other health issues so I went to a cornea specialist, and not one of those drive through lasik centers. So, yes, it does work, and it is wonderful. But - talk to your doctor, and go get a consultantation from a licensed doctor that can do lasik. Most consultations are free, so you can shop around for the doctor you like and a price that fits your budget. Most have some type of payment plan so you can pay it out if you need to. Don't listen to any horror stories on here - go do research for yourself, and that really doesn't include this board - all you will get here are opinions. I do have some halo's with my night vision because it is still new, but it is getting better every day. And, the doctor I saw includes a years worth of follow up's with the surgery price, so if anything goes wrong, or if I need another minor correction, it is already paid for. HTH.

-7 is a high number & lasik is definitly indicated.

it is a very safe surgery if the patient has been screened properly. in case of very high numbers like urs there is sometimes a tendency for retinal detachment after surgery which may lead to temporary blindness. also in very few cases if proper screening has not been done there may be rupture of globe.
but if proper screening has been done & ur docs feel that ur eye will take the stress then nothing like it. but make sure that ur doctor is using proper instruments to test the curvature of ur cornea & a detailed retinal examination is also done.
if u have any doubts consult some other doc.

regarding the recurrence, people are myopic because of the differential growth in various parts of the eye, so ur number changes till ur body is growing which it can upto the age of 24-25 years, so there is a potential that there may be recurrence of the problem upto a minor extent, i.e. u may get a number of say upto -1 or -1.5. if u get operated now.

as u grow older say around 40 ur eye lens tends to become stiff & then u will need like everybody does, .......reading glasses, that is inevitable.

take ur pick man.
lasik is a good surgery but u should weigh ur options, make an informed choice as eye is precious.
complication rates are very low may be less than 1 in 10000 but u have just one pair of eyes.
