Is lifetime Lasik worth the extra cost? |
I could get one lasik surgery on both eyes for $2100 US but there also is lasik for the rest of your life for $4600. I wonder if anyone would say go for the higher cost one. i'm a medical student, and i had lasik on both eyes last summer. it is definitely worth it, in case you were considering not doing it all. I cant really think of a good reason to have the expensive one. I obviously dont know how old you are, but that needs to be taken into account. If someone was 50, getting the lifetime surgery would be stupid since their remaining lifetime isnt quite as long as a teenager's. The cheaper version will last for ~15 years, again depending on age. 15 years ago, RK was the best eye surgery around, and it was painful, usually worked, and you were out of commission for a few days. Lasik is great because as soon as the surgery is done, you can see better and 2 days later you can see better than with glasses or contacts. But imagine what they will have in the next 15 years. Lasik may only cost $200/eye by then. And you may not even need it again because it totally depends on the person. I had it at 21, so around 40 I should supposedly start having problems again. I may just want reading glasses instead of another surgery by then. But considering what is being done in the surgical fields with technology and new techniques. Lasik/Lasek will be outdated in 5 years anyway because of something new and better. Forget the lifetime surgery...its not worth it. |
