Any information on kyphosis or scoliosis? |
Okay! I'm 14 years old and like many other people my age, we slouch! Now my back is ,well i think, becoming abnormal! I went to my mom about it and she gave me something that could help me with my posture, but I lost it, and now my back it becoming worst! For a couple minutes each day I lie on my floor to keep my back straight and I hope it will help. But now I just want information on kyphosis or scoliosis because when I had my physical my doctor said my scoliosis was minor. And no wikipedia cause I don't trust the site that much!!! Just to clarify- scoliosis doesn't cause slouching. The curvature caused by scoliosis is side-to-side (as the spine should appear straight when viewed directly from the back) not front to back (as in bad posture or "hunching/slouching"). Scoliosis is a curveature of the spine. Untreated, it causes back problems, and lots of pain among other things. Since you already have it as a minor, surgery will be an option if it progresses. Hey the same thing happened to me when I was your age. It's normal for your back to go a little curved as you are growing. My school nurse checked everybody's backs one day and I was one of the people whom she sent to the doctor. I had an X-ray done and my doctor said that my back was curved at a 15 degrees but it was not severe and my back will most likely straighten itself out when I get older and taller. He told me to go back for another X-ray in 2 years but I never went hehe. I don't have a noticeable slouch. Do some stretching exercises that strech your spine. Strectch arms above your head and make a circle with your armsto the side, the floor, the other side, back to above your head. You can stretch to sides as well. Be conscientious about how you stand and walk and correct yourself of the bad behavior. You could also go to webmd.com for more info and/or google it. I looked this up for you and there are many dites you can go to and get more info. Hope it help, you need a Dr.=== here are several GREAT websites for this |
