What does kyphosis means?

What does kyphosis means?

there are three kinds of spinal curvature problems you can have. kyphosis is where the top curve (in the neck/shoulder area) curves too much (aka. hump back). the other two are lordosis (the lower curve arches too much. aka. "sway back") and scoliosis (the spine curves to the side).

a curving outward. usually pertaining to the spine. like a humped back

Your upper back is actually supposed to have a kyphosis (a curve outward) but not too much, which is a hyperkyphosis, or a very rounded, slouched posture.
A hypokyphosis is when you have too little curve, and the upper back is ramrod straight, which is actually not good. It causes pressure and pain in the neck and also stiffness in the lower back. It can also be an indication of a mile scoliosis and may cause poor breathing volume.

kyphosis..backward curve...normal unless highly exaggerated
this is the way the spine curves normally between the shoulders.

lordosis..forward curve of the neck (cervical spine) and low back (lumbar spine)..perfectly normal..designed that way for weight distribution from nose to toes.
