How do i correct kyphosis?

How do i correct kyphosis?

If it's congenital kyphosis, you should see a Physician or depending on your age, a qualifed Chiropractor may even be able to help.

If it's progressive non-congential kyphosis, strength conditioning seems to be the most effective method of alleviating symptoms and sometimes even reversing the condition.

Since most patients with kyphosis have a somewhat protracted posture and rounding of the shoulders, it's important to work on the retractors (rhomboids) and external rotators of the shoulder while simultaneously lengthening the internal rotators such as the pectoral muscles and lats.

I would suggest visiting an exercise specialist well-versed in musculoskeletal conditions or a qualifed physical therapist for assistance. But it can definitely be corrected if you are dedicated to the rehab and long-term strength conditioning.

Treatment depends on the cause of the disorder:

* Congenital kyphosis requires corrective surgery at an early age.
* Scheuermann's disease is initially treated with a brace and physical therapy. Occasionally surgery is needed for large (greater than 60 degrees), painful curves.
* Multiple compression fractures from osteoporosis can be left alone if there is no neurologic problems or pain, but the osteoporosis needs to be treated to help prevent future fractures. For debilitating deformity or pain, surgery is an option.
* Kyphosis caused by infection or tumor needs to be treated more aggressively, often with surgery and medications.

Treatment for other types of kyphosis depends on the cause. Surgery may be necessary if neurological symptoms develop.
