Total Knee Replacement and leg still hurts.?


I had a Total Knee Replacement 5 years ago and my knee starting aching again last year. I know I have arthritis in the knee but DR is unable to do anything regarding the pain. Anyone else exp. this after a TKR? I am in my 40's.

I recently have had a rash of patients with revisions of their knees which were done 3-5 years ago. They all had a component fail. Not sure if it was one particular brand, but they all eventually required revision once the pain became unbearable.

Your knee should be relatively pain free most of the time at this point other than some occasional aches and pains. The important thing is, if you were once pain free and now you are not, that sends up some red flags. If you've never really been pain free, this may be your baseline.

I trust he/she took x-rays, but your next step might be a bone scan to rule out prosthetic loosening.
