Knee replacement surgery? |
my mom just had knee replacement surgery a week ago and shes in extreme pain her medicine she says that the only thing her pain medication does is make her drowsy she hasnt slept for 3 days because of her pain and discomfort i want to know if this is normal and what type of medication she can take to get rid of the pain and or help her sleep fyi shes been taking vicodine but she stopped because it was only making her drowsy and not helping with the pain she is now taking motrin 600mg and it helps but she still has pain at night when trying to sleep and also she is having these episodes were one minute she is very cold and the next shes really hot could this be due to an infection? its been a 2 weeks since the surgery its like shes fine and then all of a sudden shes really cold and a few minutes later shes really hot any help or info would be greatly appreciated rest, ice, compression and elevation are all things which should be done for comfort. Also, the Motrin is a good idea. She can actually take 800 mg every 6 hours to decrease the inflammation. Most people think Vicodin works like tylenol-therefore not very good. I would have her call the doctor if the pain doesn't go away, since what they tried obviously isn't helping. does she have a pillow under her knee when shes laying down? it really can help, its gonna hurt for a good while. ask your doctor about the pain meds, nothing helps me much either. It really depends on what she can tollerate. I'm allergic to any Morphine derivitive, so I cannot take Vicodin. Demeral usually does the trick for me. But I was given Tordal after my knee replacement...WOW that really helped !!! |
