Anyone had partial knee replacement recently???

I am going in for a partial knee replacement in January and was wondering if anyone has had this procedure and what you thought of it. How was your recovery? Were you pleased with the results?

The recovery for a partial or "unicompartmental" knee replacement is significantly less than a total knee replacement. While most people have 3 months of therapy after a total, the average time in therapy after unicompartmental is about 1 month. Many get rid of any assistive device after the first two weeks. Hospitalization may be on a day sugery or overnight basis. The incision is much smaller which usually translates to greater ease in mobility and less pain.

From what I have seen in the clinic, even if the surgeon feels that only part of the knee needs to be replaced, there is usually some degeneration in the non-surgical compartment. What that means is that even though the other compartment wasn't ready for surgey, it still tends to be a pain producer. In other words, many people are still left with some mild pain in the non-surgical compartment. It most cases, it is not enough to affect daily functioning. Yet, almost invariably, someone with a unicompartmental eventually goes for a total knee replacement years down the road.

Overall, the unicompartmental is a less traumatic surgery, but I have still seen some with complications....probably the worst was someone who had a bad fit and dislocated the end of the femur off the mensicus.

I think anytime you can "buy" before total knee replacement is helpful.

My ex-husband had one done like 10 years ago. The rehabilitation was long but he has no problems with his knee.

Knee joint replacement surgery has become very common nowadays. My cousin also got her hip replacement surgery in India through the forerunners healthcare .She is more than very happy with the results. She is totally pain free now. She just paid 25% of the amount she was quoted in USA and is all praise for this forerunners healthcare company.

Forerunners Healthcare is very famous in India. I read a lot about them in the Newspapers and magazines. I have read a lot of their patient stories also. They arrange financing for USA, Canadian, UK and other international patients who plan to have surgery abroad for low price, as all joint surgery is not covered by insurance in USA or by NHS in the UK. They also have photos pasted of their International patients. You can checkout their website. There are huge cost savings. As a doctor I personally believe that your surgery can be easily handled in India, as the quality of healthcare available In India is simply best in the world. The surgeons are USA/UK trained and facilities are 5 star.

Many patients travel from United States of America and UK to get low cost surgery in India. Indian corporate hospitals are comparable to hospitals anywhere in the world. In fact, India has medical facilities that are comparable with the USA, UK and Canada. India offers World Class Medical Facilities, comparable with any of the western countries. India has state of the art Hospitals and the best medical experts. With the best infrastructure, the best possible Medical facilities, accompanied with the most competitive prices, you can get the treatment done in India at the lowest prices.
