Does anyone have experience of having a knee replacement due to arthritis when in your forties or other option

My partner has been told that her arthritis in the knee can only be dealt with by a replacement. She is not keen on this option as she is still only in her forties. Do you have any experience or comments on this situation ?

my mom had her knee replaced when she was 50. Shes had bad arthritis for about 30 years previous to that, and after multiple reconstruction surgeries, a replacement was her last option. She was concerned that the knee replacement would have to be replaced again in a number of years. She talked with her orthopedist, and was told that in about 20 years or so would have to have the plastic parts replaced, but the metal does not have to.
My mom was having a horrible time with her knees before she got it replaced. The day after her surgery the PT department had her standing and taking a step or two, although she struggled. Within 5 days post-op, shewas already already able to walk up and down her hallway without a whole lot of problems.
having her knee replaced was one of the best things that every happened to my mom. She was able to walk a lot further than she was before, and have very little pain.
The surgery did cause a lot of pain, but in the long run, it was a good thing.
hope this helps

has she tried physiotherapy exercises to build up her leg muscles to suport he knee better
they helped me a lot

I was actually nursing a lady today who has had boh hips and knees replaced due to arthritis at an early age.

She said it has given her a new lease of life.

I hope she goes ahead with it.

Good luck & Happy New Year :D

I need a knee replacement and am in my 30's. My doctor at the moment is trying to preserve my knee and my mobility for as long as possible. If I had a knee replacement now it would cure my arthritis but the new knee would not last more than 15 years. There are a limited number of times you can replace the knee and each time you have surgery you take risks. I am currently trying to prolong the life of my knee with painkillers and different prescription drugs from my doctor. Your partner should try all the different therapies available and only have surgery as a last resort. I wish her good luck and keep active.
