How long does it take to recover from having your knee scoped vs total knee replacement? |
I need a total knee replacement on my left knee and my right knee needs to be scoped. I am a 49 yr old male. Hi I am 42 and I have had 5 knee ops on my knee following a skiing accident that tore my ligaments and meniscus. The athroscopy or scoping is an investiagtory procedure and relatively simple. Recovery periods are usually quite quick but it does depend on whether they do any work whilst looking. The major ligament replacements involve fibre optics as well but the recovery period is long (months) I am not sure on knee replacements but I would guess the recovery period is much much longer. My 52 yr old husband had arthroscopic surgery on left knee (he has major arthritis in both knees, but had a meniscus tear in the left knee)in February; was off crutches and pain meds within 3 days, and has completely recovered. He was told the the point of this surgery was to give him 5 - 10 years before he would need actual knee replacement. If you can just have arthroscopic surgery on your knees for now, it's possible that you may be able to hold off on replacement. Good luck! |
