Do you know any info or anybody with a Total Knee Replacement? Please Help!!!?

Does anybody know someone that had a knee replacement. How long do they last? How many TKR's can you have in a lifetime? ANY information would be great, Thank you!!!

Thank you all so much for your compassion and your words of wisdom!

I have never had one, but I worked with a ortho team. that did them, I was part of the operating room staff. I think they last about 20-30 years. Depending on how you use them. Meaning if your a jogger they may get a little more wear and tare than a couch potato. But moderate exercise will keep the tendons, ligament, ect. healthier. I never heard anyone say that one brand of replacement was better than another, it is usually what fits the patient or doctors preference. It is quite an uncomfortable surg. prep with exercise before and after, that will speed healing. I have seen them replace as many as 3-4 times. Usually some other pathology was involved. Depending on your age you should good to go for the rest of your life. Good luck, and remember they can do amazing things now days.

mom mother has had both knees done with total replacement and she was told they would last ten to fifteen years depending on activity levels and age and stuff like that

My mother-in-law and my own father have both had total knee replacement....My mil had both knees done with one being ok and the other doing well still fifteen years later...the one being ok had to be redone do to a bad part...My father says it was and is the best thing he did for himself...he is no longer in pain and gets around wonderfully.....no problems...
I do not think there is a limit to how many you can have...you have to meet the criteria for that sort of surgery...
Make sure you know the surgeon knows the details of the part, get as much information you can on what he plans to use and make sure they have done this a few times...

Hi- My Dad had a total knee replacement on March 1st. He has been doing well with this. I work in a skilled Nursing Facility, and have seen many people have this procedure done. With good Physical Therapy post-operatively, most of the patients to leave walking quite well. The Physical Therapy is a MUST! In re: to how long they last- Ask an Orthopedic Surgeon that is going to do this procedure. This Physician will have the answers for you. After tending to people for over 27 years, Total Knee Replacements have improved over the years. Everybody does well in their own individual way. It does take HARD WORK after the surgery in order for the procedure to be successful. Hope this helped you out. Good Luck and Take Care!

Hello.
I am 48 years young, I had my TKR at 40 after 7 prior surgeries on that knee. The doctors were apprehensive to give it to me at such a young age. Their argument was "THE STUDIES ON TKR's ARE ONLY 15 YEARS OLD WE DON'T KNOW HOW LONG THEY WILL LAST " You hear people refer to the 15 year mark as though it were set in stone, that is not the case. It is true however that at this point you will loose length in the leg after 2 TKR's. The better you take care of it the longer it will last. Don't kneel on it EVER, don't jog, running is ok because there in minimal impact at the knee joint, be smart if it hurts back off or don't do it. I have my knee X-rayed every two years and so far it is better than when I received it. The glue joint had a gap after surgery and since then my body has filled it in with bone growth :) Last year when I went to see my orthopedic surgeon, He said that the knee I have, he has been putting in for 22 years and has only had to replace one of them... the patient was into skydiving... Be smarter than that. Hope this helps.
