Is my knee injury serious?

i was playing basketball yesterday and when i did a step fake, something happened to my knee, because after like a minute i started to feel a slight pain inside my knee. The next day it was uncomfortable, so I bought a knee brace to prevent any other injuries. I'm scared that it might be my acl, but i didn't hear a pop. Can it be that serious? Should i just wait to see if the pain lessens, or shoudl a see a specialist?

I've had a partial tear in my MCL and that was pain on the inside of my knee. The acl tends to hurt more in a forward to backward line, the mcl protects the inside and I believe its the lcl on the outside. If you are insured, I'd suggest having an MRI taken and they can tell you if anything is damaged. If it is a sprain or partial tear you would do well to keep off of it. An acl tear or complete seperation is quite painful, more so than what you've described so I would doubt that to be the case. You never know however, so its always best to err on the side of caution.

A physical therapist or sports medicine doctor could get a good idea as to what has happened by checking the tension of your ligiments. Generally, if there is increased mobility in the forward or backward motion (often tested by gently jerking the joint with one hand on the upper calf and the other just above the knee cap). If there is a great amount of pain and mobility, I full seperation is likely. Putting preasure on the outside of the knee, bending inward will test the mcl and the opposite will test the lcl.

Just baby it and keep ice on it to reduce infammation. If it doesn't seem to be getting better, I'd have it checked out.

You may have a slight sprain. Try ice and ibuprofen and see your doctor if it's still sore in a few days.

go to the doctors and just cheak if you need cruches.it might of popped.
