Knee injury advice? how long should the knee support go on for? |
i had an excercise injury in jan 07 last year.. the sports doc said it was a lateral meniscal tear.. i asked a surgeon that does regular knee reco's and said it was probably a strain.. ive been wearing knee supports when i excercise since then.. should there be a time where i should not wear it at all? my knee would probably be weaker now i have worn that knee support? any advice to strengthin it? ive hurt the other knee today rollerblading and i dont want 2 gimpy knees.. WITHOUT HAVING ANOTHER X-RAY TO SEE IF ANY PERMANANT DAMAGE WAS DONE, I CAN'T ANSWER THIS. I WORKED FOR 13 YRS AS A PHYSICAL THERAPIST ASSISTANT, BUT SPORTS MED WASN'T MY SPECIALITY...GERIATRICS WAS. I just had knee scope surgery 10 days ago - I had tore my menscus same type symptoms and had cartlidge damage the surgery took 45 mins I went home 1 hour after was in bed maybe 24 hours then slowly... Sounds to me Meniscus as well as MCL. I know, It (MCL) shouldnt be causing you that much trouble after 8 months. MRIs are less accurate in meniscus tears. They are usually good with ligaments. But ... its possible that the dr missed something, MRIs do not always show menisci tears. and Even though the MCL injury you have is"minor" the dr has your knee in a brace like that to protect it... Whenever there is any injury, even a small bruise, there is tissue damage. With tissue damage comes inflammation to protect your body from infection and help heal the damage that has been done. It ... I'm no medical expert, but its better to be safe then sorry so I'd get it checked out by your GP ...By filling out the workers comp form you have preserved your options.
