Anterior Cruciate Ligament - Knee Injury?

I am recovering from a bad knee injury from a couple of years ago, that I have just re-injured. Whats the best way to nurse it back to health, whilst still keeping myself fit.

Im trying to shift a couple of stone at the same time. Previously I would have done a lot of walking, but not so easy at the moment.

My suggestion would be for you to attend physiotherapy. They will start with gentle stretching and strengthening and they might even use ultrasound to speed healing. If the problem gets worse you should go and see your doctor. Take it slow and easy and use the RICE method. I am sure you must have experience from your last injury. I truly hope that this helps you. Good luck. Remember time heals all wounds. Also a good thing to try would be an exercise bike set on low resistance. It burns calories and it is easy on the knee.

Did the previous injury require corrective surgery?
If that is the case you may want to have your orthopedic check out the knee to see what damage you have done.

Do you still have a brace from the previous injury? If not think about picking one up that has ful support to both sides of the knee, with pivots to allow for flexion and extension.

If you choose not to go to a doctor, or don't feel it is that bad to go, then I would use a brace, take it easy for a few days and then do low impact things like leg lifts with no resistance, stretching, then moving up to walking.

Having had surgery on both of my ACLs I would recommend getting it looked at

Good Luck
