Child, sugar level, symptoms?

My 13 year old has symptoms: feeling dizzy, not eating as much as she used to (no appetite) have not ruled out eating disorder, but I have seen her eat good meals as well. She is not over weight but has lost weight in the past few months. I checked her sugar level before a meal, she had not eaten in 4 hours and her level was 119. Can anyone share their idea's on what this could be? Her father has type 2 diab. But no one else in the family. I will be making an appointment this week with her doctor but wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts to offer. She is not going to the bathroom and making herself sick after meals, and I make sure she eats...I just can't get her to eat very much. She does eat three times a day except when for what ever reason we miss breakfast. She also says she feels sick or bad most of the time. She has aches in her knees and other joints occassionally but the doctor ruled out anything bad about 4 months ago with that issue.

I just checked her blood sugar again and it has been 2 hours after her last meal...and her level is 181.

Wow This sounds like my exact problems. My joints hurt and I can feel sick in my stomach and I too lost an unusual amount of weight. Glad to know its not just me lol. Here's what you need to do is have her get an allergy test. I bet a million percent that she has super bad allergies and I also bet she has some serious food allergies. These are my exact symptoms written in your question and I am 4+ (highest on the scale) allergic to beef, pork and lamb. I have to avoid these foods at all costs.

Allergies cause you to have mucus buildup that makes its way to your stomach casuing your stomach to feel icky and for me nascious. Thus I eat less at times when my allergies are at their worst.

I do not feel that she has diabetes. You would know if she did as she would pass out and go into sugar shock. Which she appears to not have done.

A note to you is that some doctors will go overkill in recommending that you have your child take the allergy shots. That really is not recommended by me as most people's allergies change every 3 to 4 years to something else and the shots appear to be allergy specific.

My recommendation is to daily take some form of allergy medicine such as allegra or benadrly and if she has food allergies to change the diet. This requires alot of work (sorry).

Now if she has food allergies she will also be allergic to any kind of preservatives. My mom as a akid had to change my whole diet. I had to

A) not eat ANY packaged food that was not organic (foods really avoid are things like hamburger helper ect. That stuff is really not healthy for anyone anyways).

B) prepare all meals from scratch and they be organic.

Note you might find interesting (I did a science reseach paper on this for my freshmen biology class in college) is that the US allows most grocery store vegtables to be GM (gentically modified foods). That means they are allowed to say (and do) use a fish gene and implant it into a strain of tomatoes to make them have a longer shelf life. The tomatoes they normally sell in the store can have been sitting their for over four weeks and still be red and have by this point no nutritional value. What this means for a person with allergies is that if you are allergy to fish then chaching you are suddenly allergic to the non organic tomatoes sold in the grocery store because your body reacts to it like it was fish since it contains fish.

Thus if you are food allergic orgainic is the only way to go.

Europe has currently banned all Gm foods and for just cause. I kind of wish it was illegal in the US.

Her blood sugar is a little bit elevated...and seeing as this was before a meal, I agree it needs to be checked by a Dr. I'm including a link for other symptoms of Type 1 diabetes, you can see if any of these apply...usually the first symptoms you notice is increased thirst and increased urination, the dizziness could also be a sign, although I believe that's more a symptom of hypo (low) glycemia.
Definitely get her into a Doctor asap - and mention to him that you would also like her screened for an eating disorder or other nutritional deficiencies (because of her lack of appetite).

High blood sugar

High blood sugar means that the level of sugar (glucose) in your child's blood is above a normal or near-normal range. Your child may feel tired and thirsty when his or her blood sugar is well above a safe range. However, some people adjust to elevated levels of sugar in their blood and may not have obvious symptoms of high blood sugar until their blood sugar levels are very high.

* If your child's blood sugar level is between 80 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL) and 200 mg/dL, he or she most likely won't have symptoms. If symptoms are present, they will likely be mild, such as fatigue.
* With a blood sugar level between 200 mg/dL and 350 mg/dL, your child may have mild symptoms such as increased thirst and urinating more often than usual. Some people don't notice any symptoms when their blood sugar level is in this range.
* A blood sugar level above 350 mg/dL usually causes moderate to severe symptoms. Your child may feel weak and drowsy, have blurred vision, and lose his or her appetite. If blood sugar continues to rise, your child may become confused and go into a coma.

Symptoms of high blood sugar usually develop gradually over a period of hours to days. Unless you and your child fail to notice the symptoms, you usually have time to get early treatment. An emergency occurs when high blood sugar levels lead to severe dehydration and interfere with the chemical processes of the body (metabolism).

A blood sugar of 100 mg/dl (5.6 mmol/L) two hours after eating is perfectly normal. If you are concerned, I would just watch your daughter for signs of increased thirst, increased urination, changes in growth pattern, etc.
