I feel so bad about my little brother!? |
He is 3 years old and he was just diagnosed with klinefelter's syndrome. Does anyone know what this entails? Please answer. Klinefelter's syndrome, 47,XXY or XXY syndrome is a condition caused by a chromosome aneuploidy. Affected males have an extra X sex chromosome. The principal effect is abnormal testicular development and reduced fertility. A variety of other physical and behavioral differences and problems are common, though severity varies and many boys and men with the condition have few detectable symptoms. It is the second most common extra chromosome condition, and is named after Dr. Harry Klinefelter, an endocrinologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, Massachusetts, who first described it in 1942.[1] The condition exists in roughly 1 out of every 500 to 1,000 males.[2] aww.....i hope he gets better...it is about having an extra chromosome or something click this to read more Never heard of it. I looked it up on the web. With proper education, physical, speech, and occupational therapy, and testosterone replacement, he should be able to live a normal life. This occurs in males born with a extra x chromosome. They are infertile. Hormone replacement is started at puberty(11-12years). Look it up if you haven't already or ask your parents for more info. Family involvement and support in his life is very important and necessary. Hope that helped some. |
