Kidney Stones & Salt?

I have been suffering with kidney stones for about 5 years now. I have had around 20 so far. I went to the doctor yesterday and I found 10 more in both kidneys. The problem I am having is that in addition to kidney stones I am suffering from a mystery fainting disorder related to my heart and brain. I faint frequently and I am currently on steroids and beta blockers to help get this under control. I was told to eat as much salt as possible... but then told to stay away from salt by my nephrologist. I feel like I have to pick: Kidney stones or fainting. Any advice? I am currently on the waiting list for Mayo.

Yes! POTS was the diagnosis that I was given. There is some scrutiny amongst my doctors to whether this is a real disease or not, so they sent my case to Mayo. I'm currently waiting to hear what they have to say about it. It's a 3-6 month waiting list.

The salt for the fainting is to help you maintain your blood pressure. You'r eon a beta blocker to regulate your heart rate right? That is also used to lower blood pressure. Mayo is the best place to go ... wait and it will be worth it, because you'll get the most up to date treatments available.

The salt restriction from your nephrologist is because salt makes you retain fluid. you don't urinate as much and this is usually not good for the kidneys. Kidney stones are usually attributed to calcium, not salt. The amount that you described is not normal and I hope your Doctor is checking into that more.

Is this POTS by any chance?

I have heard if your body uses the calcium already in your muscles, bones and blood to make your muscles work (it is a part of the chemical energy thing)... then if it uses that calcium it leaves little crystals behind in your blood that becomes kidney stones.
BUT if you get a fresh source on a daily basis (I take the new chewable calcium from Caltrate that is for colon and bone health) then your blood contains all the calcium it needs and it stops breaking down the old calcium in your body and it effectively stops making the crystals that become kidney stones. (I have always gotten a lot of calcium and never have gotten kidney stones even though I drink cokes and stuff) A friend of mine drank large amounts of water and never ate the wrong things and she kept stones until she started getting the extra calcium then she never got another one... but the doctor said it was not that. (Well it depends on how much credit you give the doctors) it sure seemed to work for her.
I also have some rare disorders but recently I have been feeling better. I will pray for you also.
