Reoccuring kidney stones?

I have kidney stones. Only in my right kidney....never in my left. This has been going on for 8 years now. Last year it got so bad that my right kidney was basically a stone itself and I had ESWL. which is where they break them up. After that i was kidney stone free for about 2 months. Then it started again. I went to the doc, he took xrays, done blood work, checked my urine and found nothing. They cant tell me why i am producing stones..... they just happen. Sometimes i get i so bad i am throwing up and dizzy , i dont know if thats from the pain or what but when that happens i wind up in the hospital only to be released 4 hours later with a bottle of Toradol , which does nothing for my pain. and 15 lortabs. Never do they have refills. I can pretty much control my pain at home without spending so much money on dr bills if they would just prescribe the pills with refills.... how do i ask my doctor about that without sounding like a junkie... i am really tired of paying all these bills

i drink lots of water with lemon juice, i have cut off all caffeine or soda, tea, anything like that. Mainly i drink water, orange juice and cranberry juice and thats it.

I know how painful they are...I get them on the left side, not the right. When you feel the first sign, drink tons of water (Figi) and sleep on the opposite side.

You can ask the Dr for a larger quantity but they won't give refills.

I've been throught the surgery, the pain, nausea, too. I feel for you.

I get them when I drink pepsi too many days in a row. I've learned to control it. I drink lots of water and when my bladder is full....I mean full...I try to pee as hard as I can and it usually pushes it out. It hurts like heck but no hospital for me anymore.

Drink a lot of water...that should automatically help.

ask your doctor to refer you to a pain specialist.

then you need to read up on diets for people with kidney stones (my husband has them) and find a Dr you can trust to give you some care and answers...
You aren't a junkie...rarely do junkies need meds for pain. They need them for their brains to use, because they're in need of psychological help...

first of all you need to find out what kind of kidney stone you are producing. alot of kidney stones are diet contributed. for instance too much calcium can cause a kidney stone. not drinking enough water. do you also get uti(urinary tract infections) with the kidney stone it could be bacterial in nature. as far as the prescription it is federal law that prohibits narcotics being perscribed with refills (you can thank the people that would sell their prescription.

Water might some, depending on the cause. But be careful because overdoing the water can be bad as well. 64oz is a safe amount. As for your pain pills, unfortunatly because of their strength and high potential for addiction they can only be prescribed for a certain number of doses before you have to be reevaluated. Having a pain specialist should help expedite the process. You can avoid the whole dog and pony show of going to the doctor. Plus they can act as your advocate with the doctor when your in pain. Its a good thing.

stop drinking the cranberry juice, it causes kidney stones, then consult a urologist

Kidney stones can be caused by severe dehydration such as saunas and also by too much uric acid and too much calcium and a few other causes.

Perhaps a web search for "kidney stones" + causes + "natural remedies" might be useful.
