Kidney infections....im scared.?

Ok, so I have had several kidney infections in the past and have even been hospitalized for one in the past. I have been having problems with a reacurring bladder/kidney infection for the past two weeks. I have been to the doctors twice and I called them again and left a message with the phone nurse. She called back today and told me they are going to switch my anti-biotics and do a pelvic ultrasound. I just feel frustrated with my doctor becuase before he just didnt seem to concerned with what was going on. I am scared that all of this is doing damage to my kidneys.
What sould I do?

Sounds like your doctor is concerned or he wouldn't be doing a pelvic ultrasound. He also wouldn't be switching your antibiotic.

Kidney infections almost never lead to kidney damage. The exception is if you are diagnosed with chronic kidney infections. This type of infection develops slowly, keeps getting worse and hangs on. It is caused by pregnancy, cancer, diabetes or an abnormality of the urinary tract.

Do you know the steps you can take to minimize your chance of kidney infection? If not, they are:
wear cotton panties
always wipe front to back
urinate immediately after sex
never "hold it"...if you have to pee, go pee!
do not use sexual positions that will irritate your urinary tract
do not use scented or colored/designed toilet paper

Be sure to follow through on your ultrasound. It will help to see if your urinary tract has an anomaly which might help determine why you are having problems. Take your antibiotic exactly as directed and finish all of it. And, most of all, if you don't like or trust your doctor, get a second opinion or switch doctors. However, being honest, your doctor appears to be following normal treatment and diagnosis procedures.
